A4/S4/RS4 [Official] Audi A4 facelift (B9)

Life is not easy for Audi. When they are concervative people should bland, and now when they are fullfilling their promise of differentiting models a bit, their cars are called overstyled.

That's not the issue here Luw. This is mutton dressed up as Lamb. No amount of over styling will hide the fact this is a fundamentally frumpy looking car underneath.

The preface lifted model was rather anonymous and this face-lift extends the life of the A4 which is unfortunately out of sync with Audi's new design revolution.

I kinda like this facelift, it makes the A4 more sharply dressed and a little less conservative and looking a little more like a junior A6. The Avant looks nicer than the saloon, it somehow looks more complete. The interior is looking dated next to the other latest Audi models, the new larger screen in my opinion looks too upright, they should have made it more rectangular instead of square looking. The touch screen interface is maybe more logical to operate but it means your concentration needs more focus on the screen and less on the road.

With regards to the 12V mild hybrid powertrains that are mentioned, do they still have an electric motor sandwiched between the gearbox and engine to provide start/stop and regenerative functions?

I like it. Evolutionary design instead of revolutionary and that’s ok. Looks great, especially the wagon! :hearts2:

The interior is superb (as expected from Audi). Though one thing that does stick out is the placement of the screen. I didn’t like that on the Mercedes-Benzes (C-Class, CLA etc.) because it does comes across like an “afterthought”. Nonetheless it’s a nice cabin.

The placement of the screen would have been best solved like this in my opinion. Integrated-into-the-center-console.

They weren’t going to change that on a facelift though. The rerouting if the hvac vents and other associated dash parts would’ve driven the refresh cost sky high.

The choice of this launch colour is rather bland for a car that's trying to showcase all the newness of a Facelift. Perhaps the updates will fair better in brighter more vibrant colors, but the fact that they have now deleted that deep line that used to run from headlights to taillights is really disappointing.

Extensive facelift considering front and rear fenders along with doors are different. Not sure I like the new character lines.

Overall a disappointment. Those new front lights are crude and the design belongs to the 90s.

The interrupted side character lines make it look like the doors are from a different vehicle when viewed from a distance, especially the photo above.

The big screen perched on the dash is......pure kitsch.

The new VW Passat is,I believe, a better-looking car now. I have a 2016 B9 A4 and was looking forward to

getting a 2020, now it's looking more like I'm going to choose the Passat.

I also have a 2016 B9 A4 and I must say the pics don't do any of Audi cars justice at first glance, especially when they're showcased on darker colors, but i guess an Sline in white metallic specced with Sporty 19" rims will look neat, let's give it a chance and see how it plays out in metal, as for the stuck-on screen and the death of that lovely rotary wheel though, that's quite a let down from the brand.

Agreed. Audi's refreshed headlight graphics especially, are more impact in person than in photos. However I think the Q7 facelift is better than the A4 one.

I think it's a pity they took away the kink in the headlights. Now it's more of the same drab shape of the previous A4 headlights.

Funny how the car is car wow blue.
One thing the A4 has that I wish more cars had was satellite view.
I have only experienced it in a Porsche 992 and found, when close to a destination, much more useful than map view.

Why do I get the feeling Audi is doing better and better while BMW slowly loses its charm?

Can anyone confirm? The G20 doesn't look sporty. The F30 at least looked sporty, even if it wasn't compared to E90 and E46.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
