The Mercedes-Benz R232 is the seventh generation of the SL-Class roadster. It succeeds both the R231 and the GT R190 (roadster). Presented in October 2021, the R232 was an AMG model only, until the introduction of the Mercedes-Maybach SL in August 2024. Production: March 2022-

The All-new Mercedes-AMG SL (R232)

Almost 70 years ago, a sports car launched in Stuttgart immediately became a legend. The vision of expanding the potential of the Mercedes-Benz brand through motor racing successes produced the first SL as a result - a road-going racing sports car. Shortly after its début in 1952, the 300 SL (internal designation W 194) reaped success after success on the race tracks of the world. In its first year, it achieved, among other things, a spectacular one-two victory in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans and even took the first four places in the Nürburgring Grand Jubilee Prize for sports cars. Its successes quickly make the SL a legend.

It is f#ckin sublime. I never liked the GT it looks like a hot rod, muscle car very exaggerated design very American. Not ugly but it wasn’t sublime and had no finesse to it.
Now this is totally opposite, class , pure f#ckin class!

Could this be the perfect garage of original 300SL and new SL with a lovely comfy leather sofa.

It really looks fantastic from the front and probably the best view of the car

In red the new SL looks really sporty and dynamic

Unbelievably gorgeous car. Clean and elegant yet sporty. Looks very purposeful. Feels like these days more aggressive and 'more is more' design is trending so it's really heartwarming to see a car like this. It's simply beautiful. I know Gordon gets a lot of shit here but I like his sensual purity design language. What surprises me AGAIN is what Mercedes's marketing department is doing. The third-party videos make the car look way better. Almost feels like they use the "wrong" focal length when shooting the official promo material. Also, hate the wheels, they look aftermarket. Fitted this one with AMG GT4 wheels and I think it looks even better. A nice clean five-spoke design would work too. What a beauty. Best launch since the S coupe.

Agree, Some of the press photos do make it look rather bunched up.
The windshield, folding-top area, and some rear shots take a hit with this. The new SL is one of those cars to be seen in the metal to be appreciated.

Mercedes would not go without protection in a roll-over. I am guessing these units pop up when a roll is detected, much like the 1994 300CE.

Absolutely love it, I think it's a worthy heir to one of the most legendary models in the history of Mercedes-Benz.

Two main things...
1) As many out here have already pointed out, this pretty much makes the AMG GTC (even the AMG GT Coupe, to a lesser degree) obsolete
2) I am absolutely looking forward to the so-called "Performance Hybrid " variant

It's lines are great, but... something is not quite there... it looks a bit like a CLS Roadster and I think it is because of the headlights. Because of them front is too similar to lesser models like the CLS or even the A45 AMG.

Spoke too soon earlier in this thread. My salesperson called to discuss options...I think I'm going to skip the track-based stuff this time around and enjoy the ride. That means no AMG performance seats and dynamic plus package.

They're really pushing me to order the sage green interior and spec something that doesn't clash on the exterior, which is different than the china blue on black I had imagined.

This must be a record for cars:
Completely new underneath with almost nothing new on the outside. Literally every design feature is something we have seen elsewhere before.

Yet, it all works sublimely. The GT looks all wrong to me now having seen the new SL. It is a desirable car again, although I am no fan of the soft top. I actually cannot wait to see it’s coupe cousin, the AMG GT.

I'm shocked at who likes this car here. I was expecting certain members to tear it apart, yet they like it and I'm the one struggling to accept it. WOW didn't see that #*$& coming.

It's been 20 years and it finally looks good again.
When the R321 first launched I hated everything about it... awful proportions, fugly front... I ranked it as one of the worst looking modern cars and although many have bettered it in this field I still don't find it all that attractive.
I never got to drive an SL63 but some years ago I got the chance to live with the SL 500 pre-FL for a couple of days and found it absolutely sublime.
Sophisticated, luxury and muscle car - four words you wouldn't expect to see next to each other in the same sentence... until you drive one.
It doesn't drive like any other Mercedes and yet it feels 100% true Mercedes. An extremely underappreciated GT and IMO one of the very best.

I trust this new one will be even more spectacular to drive.

PS: I know what the L stands for in SL but I'm actually happy with it weighing almost 2k considering how low it is.
Lightweight doesn't suit Mercedes IMO.

The front seems rounded and very low, but it is clearly seen in other photos that it is not, rather high and angular, rare effect.

In my opinion in profile it is definitely such as that of this concept 6 but with SWB.
As I said before, the best profile of any current and perhaps past convertibles

I must study the whole a little more, when I digest the Panamericana
