The All-new Mercedes-AMG SL (R232)

Almost 70 years ago, a sports car launched in Stuttgart immediately became a legend. The vision of expanding the potential of the Mercedes-Benz brand through motor racing successes produced the first SL as a result - a road-going racing sports car. Shortly after its début in 1952, the 300 SL (internal designation W 194) reaped success after success on the race tracks of the world. In its first year, it achieved, among other things, a spectacular one-two victory in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans and even took the first four places in the Nürburgring Grand Jubilee Prize for sports cars. Its successes quickly make the SL a legend.

It gives them some time to rethink their retard EQ design language, so I am not particularly sad. It hasn't landed well, mildly put.

Excellent. Better be prepared these days with the sad stuff coming out of this company. But hey, generic as f#ck is still better than ugly like most others from this brand.

I'm outta here lol, the new Range Rover is a bazillion times more interesting. All the best with this relic
Yes please leave and go look at that elephant.

Anyway back to this SL it is so pretty the rear… painfully pretty. I want one bad .

and the 2-2 seating , love it !

I think I am going to be flamed by some when saying this... but this SL reminds me a an upsized BMW Z4... It's not exactly what I expect from MB or AMG...

No flaming here, everyone can express their opinions. I love seeing how opinions can vary- some say it's great, some say it looks like a AMG GT roadster, some say its a mishmash of Mercedes cues, others say it doesn't look like a Mercedes at all.

It's not ugly car, definitely not, it's mighty, it looks badass, it has lovely (currently best) interior... Bravo, MB!

But i just woudn't put an SL badge on it... SL was something different, almost a class of it's own..., This? It's f'n awesome car, just doesn't scream SL to me.

Anyway, well done, MB. :eusa_clap:eusa_clap
Agreed. Looks more like a CLS roadster than an elegant SL.

To me it looks really great. At least it looks 10 times better than the previous SL generation at launch. I feel that the rear indeed looks like a facelift to the amg gt but at least it looks marvellous. It has that sexy rear that the SL generations always had.

Aggressive, yet a relaxed air to it.
Perfectly sums it up.

I am still not crazy about the headlights. There's a "maturity" that's lacking and I'd expect in an SL, but it's not enough to deter me.

Odd enough as it may be, I am still very curious about the inline-6 variant. Something that's a bit darty since it's not as nose-heavy but enough speed that it moves gracefully and has the inherent smoothness that comes from an inline-6. I am curious if and how they'll tone down the aggression and if it'll be properly pulled off. Perhaps I am in the minority, but if I wanted open-air motoring, I'd don't want an overly stiff ride while white-knuckling the steering wheel. I'd want more of a cruiser, which I know puts me at odds with finding the 911 Cab appealing.

Bad? No. Worth it? Don't think either. There are just many better products with different individual qualities, even only considering open top: Lexus LC, Ferrari Portofino, Porsche 911, Corvette, M6, Mazda MX-5.

So I've been studying it for a while now. It's not an ugly car, and it does look good from certain angles, but the back isn't quite right. It's too hump backed. The overall car doesn't move the needle far enough way from the AMG GT Roadster for me. I like it, but I'm no where near being blown away like I was a few days ago with the new Range Rover. It's slightly disappointing if I'm being honest. Maybe once I see real life videos of it on the street it will have more pop to it.

From a side profile and in this lovely shade of red (Hyacinth Red?), you can really see the Model 6 influence here.

Agree, that was the mission of the Maybach 6 all along. The front was to show some visual changes to models like the W223 S-Class, and its Maybach sibling.
The rear was a representation of the new SL with its dropping shoulder line going to the rear and sloping tail.

Unbelievably gorgeous car. Clean and elegant yet sporty. Looks very purposeful. Feels like these days more aggressive and 'more is more' design is trending so it's really heartwarming to see a car like this. It's simply beautiful. I know Gordon gets a lot of shit here but I like his sensual purity design language. What surprises me AGAIN is what Mercedes's marketing department is doing. The third-party videos make the car look way better. Almost feels like they use the "wrong" focal length when shooting the official promo material. Also, hate the wheels, they look aftermarket. Fitted this one with AMG GT4 wheels and I think it looks even better. A nice clean five-spoke design would work too. What a beauty. Best launch since the S coupe.
