The All-new Mercedes-AMG SL (R232)

Almost 70 years ago, a sports car launched in Stuttgart immediately became a legend. The vision of expanding the potential of the Mercedes-Benz brand through motor racing successes produced the first SL as a result - a road-going racing sports car. Shortly after its début in 1952, the 300 SL (internal designation W 194) reaped success after success on the race tracks of the world. In its first year, it achieved, among other things, a spectacular one-two victory in the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans and even took the first four places in the Nürburgring Grand Jubilee Prize for sports cars. Its successes quickly make the SL a legend.

There doesn’t seem to be much buyer rejection to the C and GLC 43 models. They seem popular. The SL43 is a terrible thought. The I6 would be a natural fit. Oh well.

M
The M139 is a very special motor, but its big problem is the fact that its a 4-cylinder, which means it won't sound all that good.
If AMG had instead all those years ago decided to make the M139 an inline 5 (a 6 wouldn't fit in the A45), I'm sure all of the complaints about the motor would have been heavily reduced, because of how good a 5 cylinder sounds.

People would still complain about the C63 of course, but they probably wouldn't have cared near as much once they heard it rev out.

The Power of a Vision. BRABUS ROCKET GTS.

Welcome to the next chapter of the BRABUS ROCKET Legacy. Reflecting the absolute peak of BRABUS high-end coachbuilding in every single detail, the ROCKET GTS is the ultimate fusion of bold design and power. With a sleek and menacing hyper gran turismo shooting brake silhouette made entirely of exposed carbon, combined with a fitting stance that’s both wide and low, it is all-out 1-Second-Wow. Its colossal output of 1000 hp is a statement on its own: It doesn’t get more BRABUS.

Design & Exterior. Hyper Gran Turismo.

Every single detail of the BRABUS ROCKET GTS was developed through the use of state-of-the-art CAD and CFD technologies as well as intensive optimization in the wind tunnel to offer a completely new level of Masterpiece luxury. Produced via autoclave utilizing cutting-edge prepreg processes, the Hyper GT’s entire body is made of particularly lightweight yet high-strength carbon.

The optimal balance of aerodynamic downforce on the front and rear axles, made possible by perfectly fine-tuned aerodynamic components, guarantees outstanding driving stability even far beyond the 300 km/h mark. Beyond creating perfect transitions to the wide front fenders, the BRABUS ROCKET front apron reduces lift on the front axle at high speeds with its integrated spoiler. Large air intakes direct the airflow to the radiators and the front brakes.

The exposed carbon skirts merge seamlessly into the BRABUS ROCKET side panels at the rear axle, where the dynamically curved wheel arches not only shape the supercar's unmistakable silhouette but also create a width of 198.5 centimeters at the rear axle.

The Shooting Brake’s tail end is rounded off by the BRABUS ROCKET apron with integrated exposed carbon diffuser, which perfectly showcases the four illuminated, exposed carbon-encased titanium tailpipes of the BRABUS high-performance exhaust system. But his component is more than just a head-turner. Perfected in the wind tunnel, it also delivers a substantial boost in downforce at the rear axle in combination with the specially developed BRABUS tailgate spoiler and the ducktail spoiler.

Power & Sound. Ready to Rocket.

In combination with the unique coachwork, the high-end hybrid system boasting a BRABUS eight-cylinder displacement engine and electric drive makes the BRABUS ROCKET GTS an absolute highlight supercar of not just the BRABUS Collection 2025 but the entire history of BRABUS. Thanks to perfect coordination, the two engines develop a combined system output of 735 kW / 1,000 hp. Even more breathtaking is the cumulative maximum torque of 1,820 Nm. In order to protect the Shooting Brake’s power transmission elements, this value is electronically limited to 1,620 Nm inside the vehicle.

The BRABUS ROCKET 1000 4.5-liter V8 biturbo engine assumes the role of the combustion engine in this 2+2-seater’s hybrid drivetrain. The new displacement engine produces a peak output of 585 kW / 796 hp and a maximum torque of 1,250 Nm, which is electronically limited to 1,050 Nm inside the vehicle. Power is transmitted from the combustion engine via a nine-speed sports transmission, which can be shifted either automatically or manually using the paddles on the steering wheel.

In the back, you'll find the electric drive module with a 150 kW/204 hp synchronous motor, a two-speed gearbox and a lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 6.1 kWh.

Courtesy of its cutting-edge performance engineering, the new BRABUS ROCKET GTS is one of the fastest hybrid cars in the world. The supercar sprints from a standstill to 100 km/h in just 2.6 seconds and reaches a speed of 200 km/h in just 9.5 seconds. Breaking the 300 km/h sound barrier takes just 23.6 seconds after takeoff. Its top speed is electronically limited to 317 km/h.

Its combustion engine is equipped with a BRABUS high-performance exhaust system, which includes special catalytic converters and particulate filters. This system not only optimizes performance, but it also features active exhaust valve control, giving the driver the ability to choose between a discreet whisper or an emphatically powerful V8 sound at any time.

Wheels & Chassis. Next Level.

The ROCKET GTS's wide fenders make room for BRABUS Monoblock P "PLATINUM EDITION" high-end wheels with five spokes and a center lock design, specially designed for this 2+2-seater. These wheels are manufactured using the latest forging as well as CNC-machining technology and are a perfect combination of lightweight construction and strength. The exposed carbon aero blades integrated into the wheels reinforce the unmistakable 1-Second-Wow effect of the exclusive Hyper GT and use the rotation of the rims to channel the air heated by the brakes out of the wheel arches.

Interior. Legacy.

Claim your seat in the cockpit and immerse yourself in a world of BRABUS luxury. Our team of interior specialists created an exclusive, meticulously handcrafted BRABUS Masterpiece interior to match the Hyper GT’s one-of-a-kind exposed carbon body. Particularly soft high-grade leather in slate gray covers the seat center panels, door panels, the instrument panel, the steering wheel and the center console. The headliner, the A and C pillars, parts of the dashboard and the upper sections of the door panels are upholstered in black Alcantara. The same material can also be found on the side sections, the backs and the headrests of the seats.

Light gray decorative topstitching and millimeter-precise quilting in the BRABUS Seashell Diamond design on the seats, parts of the door trim and the center console are prime examples of the BRABUS typical attention to detail. This extravagant quilting pattern also adorns the cockpit and luggage compartment flooring, which is likewise covered in the finest slate gray leather. Look even closer, and you will find the BRABUS “Double-B” embossed into the seat surfaces.

As with every BRABUS supercar, the interior of the new ROCKET GTS features a wide range of perfectly integrated design details that underline the exclusive character of the vehicle. Once again complementing the exposed carbon bodywork, the occupants are greeted by carbon entry sill trims with illuminated BRABUS logo. The pedals and parts of the steering wheel rim were made from the same high-end compound, as were the door handles and parts of the center console.

All trim elements in the cockpit, including the switches, air vents, loudspeaker grilles and panels, are finished in matte BRABUS “Shadow Gray”. ROCKET GTS logos on the passenger side of the dashboard and on the side panels and seat belts of the front seats add further unmistakable accents.

Replace "Brabus" with "Mansory," and I bet this would be derided till the cows come home. This looks silly.

I expected slightly faster times but it is still a very quick car.
0-100 in 2.95sec
0-200 in 9.27sec (based on 6.32sec from 100 to 200)
0-300 in 27.17sec (based on 17.9sec from 200 to 300)
1/4mile in 10.68sec.
Top speed on speedo 335km/h (but this was overreading by 18km/h!!! so it was limited to 317km/h true speed)

Ahh the SL, such a beautiful car with a very uncertain future.

M
This is one car Mercedes-Benz should at least convert to an EV platform, even if it doesn't have a huge battery but to have a chance for it to survive there must be an EV version.

I am inclined to agree.

Perhaps with an EREV version as well. A car like the SL should be destined for a drivetrain that offers innovation, refinement and an abundance of effortless, seamless power. Also, as EV technology progresses, it will eventually reach a plateau in which the very pinnacle of efficiency will be attained. This may very well help stabilze currently desasterous resale values, indefinitely banish range anxiety, reduce charging times to or below those of filling a fuel tank and simply present a future proof, sustainable vehicle. Certainly, we are not quite there yet and it may take several years until we arrive. But I hope that when we get there, cars like the SL will not only survive, but flourish.

I find it very strange why they covering the 3 pointed star badge on the grill, when the SL is well known and this obviously is recognized as a SL or unless its a very good Chinese knockoff by Denza?

This could be a Pro version.
It's possible.

But again, AMG needs to find away to make them a lot lighter if they want racier versions.
As they are, they're fine Sporty Grand Tourers. Lessen the weight and they'll be world beaters. Even without a power bump

The only area of significant weight reduction would be deletion of AWD system, aka having a high performance RWD. But I don’t think the current model’s ethos supports that.

I suppose. Though the SL43 is RWD only isn't it?

But still. Even with AWD, surely they could find ways to make it lighter still. There are other sports cars which are AWD and considerably lighter. Perhaps it's a safety issue.

I dunno, perhaps I'm just being overly optimistic.
