Hot! Audi: What's Next?

It's truly stunning to see the old school long and narrow Audi grille back

The whale mouth A8 D3 facelift ruined everything.

I am a big fan of these sorts of Audi grills of yore:

And also not at all the fan of the Audi "Single Frame". Or any sort of towering, "vertically accentuated" grill, for that matter. I simply like more shallow "horizontal" grill architectures that visually enhance a "wide tracked stance" characteristic.

I believe it would be key for Audi to accept it has no brand equity to compete in certain markets. I would forget all at once of sedans and focus on SUVs and a couple of Avants. Not sure who is going to be buying A8s and A6s in the coming years, let alone things like A5s and A7s.

The way car prices have shot up in the last 5 years, the sales of A6 and A8 models will probably go down as people's affordability scale will put them more into buying A5s or the SUV's. Audi strength cars have been Avants so it would be a good path forward for them to focus on adding these models to other markets other than Europe. An A8 Avant would be something different and unique to the upper class.

The A5 is the new A4 fyi, and it's selling very well...

It's also pretty nice looking actually (from the outside).
Agree. Was thinking about real coupes from Audi. A5 is a good design. I have only seen Avants, which proves my point. SUVs and wagons, that would be my focus if I were Audi’s CEO.

The best looking of their current stack, I would say. A lot better than the rather anonymous looking previous generation.

I'm not really sold on the new A6, or any of their Q cars

I very much like the silhouette that was presented with the Grandsphere concept. A very sleek 4 door shooting brake sort of large, luxury vehicle could distinguish Audi from it's current German luxury sedan competitors. And quite frankly, M-B and BMW have quite the stranglehold on that segment anyway.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
