M3/M4 [Official] 2021 BMW M3 and M4 [G80 & G82]

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

So the M3 has a sensor in the grille but the M4 doesnt?

Alas, following the presentation of the handsome G20/21, BMWs' exterior design exercises have been leaving me jaded. Once quite the fan of the brand, it's now come to the point in which I am expecting BMWs' exterior design team to drop the ball. Anything other than disappointment will be a big surprise.

Well I could start and write a whole essay here, but I am going to keep it nice and simple for now:

FUGLY. FFFFFFFFugly

That bent hood shutline has got to be one of the ugliest I have ever seen. And then that snout in between, mixed with those gigantic featureless blobs called headlights!

My Lord I feel like crying. How to butcher the G20 101.

Well, if nothing else, it confirms my belief that I'm fine with the size of the grilles on the 4-Series, but whether or not I 'like' them is far more dependent on how they're executed, and the frameless look with horizontal bars we see here is far better than what we get on the standard 4-er IMHO. M4 looks slightly 'under-wheeled', at the back still and I'm not the biggest fan of those wheels in black. Bonnet indentations above the grilles look a little bit like an after thought, I suppose it helps with differentiation, but I think I prefer the standard bonnet. The M3 certainly looks better to me in what we've seen so far, though I don't think that Yellow does the M4 any favours. Overall I like them, between the Saloon and the Coupe, and the forthcoming Convertible and Tourer, and the Alpina B3 and (hopefully inevitable) B4 models there's plenty of choice to be had for your performance 3/4-er.

I see the meltdowns have begun a day earlier.
delicious...This is what we want!

"It's inevitababable!"

These would also be my biggest gripes (black wheels not being confined to BMW. They belong on commercial vehicles and many racing cars- but not passenger cars).

The more defined tendon above the rear wheelarch flare helps reduce visual mass and add tension effectively on the M3. On the M4, that particular area simply looks dumpy and incongruent. I actually don't mind the grills. The M3 looks "tough". The M4 more like a chubby kid with a big mouth.

These pics of the M4 highlight all the wrong design features of the car. The weird no-hoff kink, the too low shoulder line, the fat ass, the asian rear lights...

You can still order a mighty M340i. But with the 4er there is no scape, the car is just a no go.

A wee fragment of hope remains pertaining to the upcoming 4er GC. The i4 concept car certainly appeals to me. Still...I can't help but ask myself whether BMW designers have actively sought a way to ruin the production versions' aesthetic. Beginning with the current 8ers, they've managed to make dogs' dinners of the attractive concept exercises. That shit actually bums me out.

I think this is a design which will strongly divide opinions. I wonder if it will look better in the metal rather than on those shots, and I also wonder whether the perception M3 >> M4 (which I share) may not be strongly influenced by the yellow color used on the M4. As it is for the moment, that's a big (but expected) visual disappointment.

So BMW ruined the M4/M3 with the design. Mercedes is soon going to ruin the C63 with a 4 pot engine. Would Audi follow the trend?

That M4 will look not bad after some tuning - put on a wide body, bring the wheels out a bit, put on 21 inch non black rims, and a medium sized spoiler, then it will look like some fricken car from hell, but this way it sucks

Audis' committed to its' electric initiative. That's good, I reckon. Audis' been "on and off" with regard to its' more recent exterior/interior designs. Audis' interior assembly and material quality has diminished.

For a base M car that's pretty aggressive isn't it.

I'm still unsure on it.

The idea of all previous M3‘s was a high performance sedan in a subtle suit, this is the opposite and very vulgar. I already saw the Mercedes Panamericana grille as too much, but this is beyond everything.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
