M3/M4 [Official] 2021 BMW M3 and M4 [G80 & G82]

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

Hmmm, Joe thinks M5 CS is the better car than the M4 CSL. Not very surprised, I feel CSL is kind of in no man's land - not special enough to go head to head vs Porsche. Not practical enough to be the family man's alternative to Porsche.
The CSL badge attracts high expectation that's were never going to be fully meet by a car that has the S58 and a ZF8.

BMW should have named it the CS and increased the production. It's just a better M3 and not a holygrail M car.

But a CS is coming so this option was not available

I agree - even upon presentation, I didn’t feel that the CSL was special enough for the moniker. The M4 is just too big when it dwarfs the already-quite-large (for a 911) 992 GT3. And, I’m really not impressed by a smattering of M-Performance carbon and a bunch of decals being the visual separator over a standard M4. It’s 2022 - you gotta do more than that.

So, if I’m buying then GT3 for me - heck, I’d even take a GTS over this - but I’d still be irked by the fact that the M4 has the finer cabin compared to 992’s rather flimsy interior.

Thinks M2 CS and M5 CS were better.
It's perplexing don't you think? They have a car like the M5 CS - a big ol' 4 door saloon with a big V8 engine - and they fine-tuned that to what's supposedly close to perfection.
What then would be so hard about doing the same for the CSL? Confusing.

The power is too much for RWD only. The heavy weight requires this power but it can not compensate for the shitty traction from standstill. And yes, with Porsche the things are much better due to the weight distribution

I’m more referring to the article by EVO who are less fixated with off the line drag races.

My speculation - I think they went hardcore on the car probably trying to matchup closer with Porsche on the track, but given the platform's more humble beginnings and compromised parts that was never gonna happen and they ended up compromising the car on the road too.

You sort of see that with E92 GTS too, E92 M3 was an awesome sports coupe on it's own right. But the GTS from all accounts was a mediocre wannabe GT3.

Always got a soft spot for Macau Blue personally, especially if you don't want to be too flashy.

I have not seen Macao Blue in person although in videos and images on-line it looks intriguing. I get a classy, understated vibe from it. To those who have seen this color in the flesh, my only concern is that it may have too much of a purple hue in it? My other thought is Hera Blue Mica potentially.

Comments and what wheels and interior would you spec with both options?

Hera Blue definitely looks 'bluer'

..

It's the slight purple tint to Macau blue that I like*... that and it's "heritage".

* granted, I seem to be missing a good chunk of cone cells in my eyes though. :D

You almost get the feeling the two cars were developed by totally different people in different departments.

I had the pleasure of riding shotgun in an E92 GTS about a decade ago and boy was it something! I've never driven or been driven in any previous GT3 but I feel for that time and era, the GTS matched it's brief rather well. I never once thought to myself that is was trying to be something it wasn't. From what I've read and watched thus far, I'd go as far as saying it still feels even more special than this CSL.

For me, the F82 GTS is where they seemed to try a little too hard with unnecessary inclusions like water-injection to extract more power in an effort to compensate for other shortcomings. It never felt special enough and more often than not, that had a lot to do with the powertrain.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
