M3/M4 [Official] 2021 BMW M3 and M4 [G80 & G82]

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

Good luck with collection. I recommend taking a few days of annual leave in the next 3-4 weeks to drive the car early in the mornings. It’s s car that you will extract maximum joy from if driven in anger. The stability, handling and braking is impressive and gives you confidence to drive it highly aggressively……if you are not stuck behind a Jazz or a Yaris.

Well I've already booked a week off for half term off. Think I'll clear off somewhere to do a few miles and leave the wife with the kids!

I'm in Oxfordshire today and heading to Nottingham at the weekend so running in service will come around soon enough.

It's painful, you can tell what its going to be capable and it's difficult to keep restrained!

Massive congratulations!! That colour combo is one I would possibly go for. Skyscraper and Fiona Red. Looks great but never ages because it's just classic.

Let us know how the collection went and how you like the buckets.

Interesting to read the little changes BMW have made. With regards to the piping on the floor mats...I have Fiona Red full leather on my 330e Touring, but I assumed that was because FR is an "Individual" option for that model, and therefore it includes FR piping around the floor mats. For my G80 M3 with full Kyalami Orange leather, I didn't have the piping, but then I assumed that was because KO isn't an Individual option, and is just a regular option.

I'll look out for you around Surrey. We'll be over in about a week...in our new C-Class which I picked up yesterday (I'll create another thread about that).

Let us know about the collection.

Well my F80 was MG and SO and I missed it so much that SG and FR was clear favourite and I wasn't making same mistake and not getting full leather this time. Though I was very tempted by Portimao and Silverstone leather.

Buckets are awesome. Sit really low and it's the first car I've owned that feels anything like a sports car. Getting in and out is an art form and I'm still trying to find the best way. But getting there.

Interesting you say that. Whilst I was investigating the case of the missing piping, I discovered only Ivory White and Fiona Red cars have it (or not now as appears to be the case). Other full leather colour options don't and I believe you are correct in that they are the only "individual" leather options available in the standard list.

I'll post up a collection thread at some point too.

Do it! On my test drive i went through 80 Miles of fuel in 15min. The car can be ragged HAAAAARD but that can't be done in 1030am traffic on a Saturday.

M4 CSL in Black Sapphire.

Looks like it is an all electric BMWi affair.

Actually I recall last year the M4 Convertible and M240i xDrive were situated outside this area near the first tee. Perhaps the CSL will be there instead.
Will be nobody there to see them tomorrow I understand due to the Queens passing.

How are you enjoying the car?

So far so good, well better than that TBH. Can tell how much potential it has even though I've not moved out of the default Comfort and Efficient settings, only thing I've changed is occasional use of the 3 gearbox modes to run the engine in.

It's firm even in comfort mode, but not harsh and maybe it's because I've not been in an M car since June last year, that it's more noticeable.

It's big, no denying that. First car I've owned that is bigger that our parking spaces/driveway and it hangs over enough to impact our neighbour so may have to start reversing or move house! But like the reviews it doesn't feel that big from behind the wheel once you get going but it is low. My elbows are resting on the centre arm rest and door so wonder if I need to adjust my position but the bucket seats are awesome and happy with those. An experience in itself and not finding them uncomfortable yet. Glad I spec-ed them for sure. Getting the knack of ingress/egress too. I fear for bolster wear though.

Scrubbing the tyres in as well so not pushing too hard on corners etc yet either but it's planted, even in comfort.

Put it this way, i really can't wait for RIS to be completed and getting a few miles in. :)

It’s appropriately firm but positive effect is car control. I felt more confident behind the wheel of a RWD G82 M4 than my friend‘s M340. Here are some of the most standout differences between the two:

1. M4 brakes are in a completley different league. Knowing that you can stop on a stamp gives you confidence to drive fast. M340i needs a full £2,000-3,000 brake kit upgrade to better match the engine. Brake pedal felt too long and mushy too.

2. M340i is a brilliant all rounder. Driven normally in comfort mode it doesn’t feel different to a 320i. Basically a perfect car to just be/exist in if you have had an argument with your partner and just want to sulk in peace while driving. Unless you put it in sport mode, the car doesn’t egg you on to drive it in anger. Suspension is extremely well judged. Compliant on poor roads but highly controlled body roll when taking roundabouts in a brisk manner.

Behind the wheel there is no mistaking that the M4 for thrills and precise enough for track days.

Indeed. That's why I promised myself never to settle for anything other than an M.

With the exception of my first BMW, a non M 330D I've upgraded sequentially from 1M, M135i, M2, M3 and now M4. Don't think I'll ever make the upgrade to M5. M4 big enough.

Trading in the 1M for the M135i was a huge mistake and instantly regretted it, great daily but not the same experience. I daily all my cars so the 1M would never have held it's value, but it is just so special.

The M5 is worth it if you want bigger seats, more luxury and enjoy the way bigger cars ride.

True be told, BMW now has a very wide M and M-lite line up to suit any budget, preference and driving style. The G-Series M cars standout by being near perfect out of the box. No need to ditch run flats or change shocks/springs to improve compliance on UK roads.

I'm pretty sure all M cars here don't have runflats. Is that not the case there?

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
