M3/M4 [Official] 2021 BMW M3 and M4 [G80 & G82]

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

"There are two places where you'll probably never catch a glimpse of the new BMW M3's garish front end: from its driver's seat and, anyone sharing the road with one, from another car. Why? Because it'll take some fairly exotic machinery to keep up with, let alone pass, the BMW M3 Competition."

Warlike, aggressive, impetuous

"The 630-hp Lamborghini Huracán STO bests it by just two tenths to 60 (2.8 seconds); the advantage of the 720-hp Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is even slimmer—just 0.1 second."

The only car I have seen is the hand built example shown above, also used in the M Town promo. No one was forthcoming about features saying that the prototype car does not reflect the production car as the noticeable screens and latest iDrive
If it has a CFRP roof? Then great.
Personally I don’t see the advantage of a CFRP roof on a Touring? Myself and many other European customers would prefer and specify the panoramic roof found on the regular Touring should it be offered.

While I would indeed welcome a cfrp roof on a G81 (c'mon M car without cfrp roof?) ... I'm sceptical.
Production number of G81 will be the lowest of all G8x and the effort for providing such a large cfrp panel seems to be substantial regarding tooling, etc.?
At the same time one has to confess, that CoG of G81 is already compromised with the heavy tailgate. The other challenges, when doing a M waggon, which is restricted space for the larger rear axle/subframe construction with the large flat trunk floor ... and being still able to install the rather big exhaust system plus M Diff, they obviously mastered ... so eventually the interest to go all in with such a huge cfrp is diminished?

They sold the romanticism of the all round panoramic views driving fast through an Alpine Forest in the summer or in the Alps in the winter.
This and the new Range Rover will be the latest fashion accessory at the Swiss Winter resorts this winter.

From other parts of the world we do not understand why an M3 touring...

Btw, what do they do afterwards with this or these primary handmade models?

Depends. Destroy or keep? They still have the E39 M5 Touring and E34 M5 Cabrio which were hand built.
They have been there for well over 20 years.

Given how well the current M3 and M5 fare against their competition, not only in terms of pure supercar performance but also daily driveability (4WD, 8AT, comfort, fit and finish...), it would be a sin not to follow the G81 M3 Touring up with a G61 gen M5 Touring to battle the RS6, which is already struggling against the current M5 and doesn't have many arguments left besides its estate body -- leveling this up with an M5 Touring would be the final blow. Unless the RS6 will have become an uncompromised EV alternative by then.

I think there could be the possibility that they could green light a next generation Touring of the M5? The M3 Touring in some markets have already reached their allocations in orders.
When asked they don’t confirm nor deny it’s more of a let’s wait and see. Or they might just arrive with an i5 M60 Touring which would be understandable. Given the A6 Avant e-tron? Are Mercedes adding EQ wagons or T-Models as we used to designate them?

Is a touring more or less torsionally stiff than its sedan equivalent?

If centre of gravity is important for you, you don’t buy a touring…

You've completely missed the point. The discussion is not about whether a CFRP should be fitted. It's that if it IS fitted, then it's the Touring that would gain the most from it. The CFRP roof is largely inconsequential on cars like this.

They're not "orders". You can only order something when there is something being offered. And there certainly aren't "allocations" that have any meaning.

Earlier this week I spoke to my salesman at BMW Park Lane in London (where I have a G80 M3 on order), which as you should know, is the only dealer in the UK actually owned by BMW. I offered to place a deposit on an M3 Touring but he said he couldn't do anything yet as it hasn't been announced. Any talk of "orders" or "allocations" is just dealers taking it upon themselves to take money. The M3 Touring is not in the system so tell me how anything can be "ordered" or even "allocated"?

You’ve completely missed my point. The discussion in GENERAL about carbon roof on a touring car is not very relevant. As you can see I didn’t comment your post, but all posts.

You can't single out the Touring as not being worthy of a CFRP without saying the same for the saloon and coupe, because the car that would benefit the most from a CFRP roof IS the Touring.

The CFRP roof is a marketing gimmick anyway on the M3s, M5s and M8s. They're road cars. Nobody is going to notice the difference with or without a CFRP roof.

If the Touring comes without a CFRP, watch BMW spin it to say it's not justified on the Touring, when the reality will be it just wasn't cost effective.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
