M3/M4 [Official] 2021 BMW M3 and M4 [G80 & G82]

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

Wait until you are old and fat. When you can’t even scratch your butt anymore, these features are useful. And BMW these days is for old fat people, not pointing fingers at you...
You don't need to be old to be unable to scratch your back

The media continue to call it CSL, regardless of the sequence or order that has been used in the brand lately, it also looks like a CS would look ... welcome

I think they are right!
In the past (F82), the sequence was:

F82 -> F82 Competition -> F82 GTS -> F82 CS (after LCI)

So - since according to BMW CSL moniker replaces the GTS moniker, this sequence of the G82 would be in line!

G82 Vanilla and Competition -> G82 CSL -> G82 CS

And btw. some of the mules show a roll-cage. This is def. CSL. And also the mules, where you see, that there is a an integrated decklid spoiler! For a CS I would expect a normal decklid with a tacked on "CFRP-spoiler".

BMW CSL moniker replaces the GTS moniker,
Those GTS (both) should never have existed, they were all sold because the brand has loyal followers, but they were defenestrated by all the media and pilots who tried them, which were expensive for what they offered, unmanageable if you were not a pilot, uncomfortable, slow anywhere other than the nurburgring, quite the opposite of the E46 CSL

An M4 CSL now would be like BMW bringing a mid-rear-engine M Supercar now, that is, nothing exciting for non-buyers and only appealing to insta-buyers for insta-followers.

It just feels so "old", and only indicates BMW ///M ///Marketing dept ///Milking badges for profit. Somehow to me an i///M4 is more interesting.

Don’t you get tired at some point , must be extremely exhausting.

I concur here. Anything right now is speculation if a CSL variant will even exist.

I can't wait to see the numbers it will produce. However, if it was your money (and you may or may not be a track-going enthusiast) would you pluck for the AWD over the RWD?

And this was partly my point the other day. I believe a CSL to be the epitome of driver-machine involvement and a RWD manual configuration does make sense. You don't need 600 horsepower in a 2 door AWD coupe to have any sort of fun.

The next 2er is more suited for a CLS treatment. Make it a high revving atmospheric I6 manual while we're at it, as a final swan song to the I6 and ICE era.

What is striking to me, are the times, being that the M4 was presented a few days ago and is just on sale, that there is already a CSL / CS (whatever) testing is unusual

Perhaps it is due to the delays due to the covid, but it is also indicative of the good expectations of sales and / or reserves that normals have, I perceive a great buzz and enthusiasm about them, as they are the current fashionable cars

Expect an onslaught of increasingly expensive and hardcore M3/4 variants over the course of the car's lifetime.

Increasingly expensive? I doubt it. AWD versions put aside, the next variant seems to be the CSL ... imho the most expensive variant. Or which variant do you see coming afterwards, which even tops the CSL?

Euro 7 car regulations all be enforced from 2025. Any manufacturer that wants to create the last amazing ICE only performance car, better hurry up.

Considering the M3/4 debuted with 2 versions and they're already testing a third, leads me to believe that M is looking to borrow a page from Porsche's GT department which has an ever-increasing number of products/variants on offer. These cars are extremely profitable for manufacturers and help to keep the spotlight on the brand.

How many versions of the last M4 were there? Base, Competition, CS, GTS and DTM!

Exactly that, it was my third point that I consider writing, making all the possible versions before the law cuts our passion.
Even as @Porsche Guy says maybe there are more versions than we know or expect

Manufacturers make special editions because they are profitable and some manufacturers are using the Euro 7 regs to incentivize people to buy today's cars. "Buy now because we won't be able to sell you this in the future". The future will come and they will have a new Euro 7 compliant car that they will push you to buy because Euro 8 regs will be just around the corner. FOMO (fear of missing out) sells cars.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
