M3/M4 [Official] 2021 BMW M3 and M4 [G80 & G82]

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

That must be a headache to plan and consider. Do you create coupe, sedan, touring and cabrio of each both RHD and LHD? What about Competition and CS variants? Which one gets more marketing or finance contribution for retail?

Tough decision ahead for BMW.
Indeed! According to latest interviews of van Meel, the entry version will become "Competition" anyhow. Nothing below it for full fledged Ms.
My hope/idea for the G84: In the late 20s the mainstream M buyers might go for the EV M3. So maybe the G84 can become even more raw/pure, because it caters for a smaller die-hard community? And it would be logical to separate the characters of the EV M3 and the ICE M3 a bit more?
Having a 1600kg+ G84 ICE S58 vs a a 2100kg quad motor EV M3 ... what a spread!

BMW M To Phase Out Base Models, Competition To Become New Standard

Say goodbye to the standard M3
, as BMW will only offer M models with Competition, CS, or CSL badges in the near the future

t may not have escaped your attention that the new BMW X5 M and X6 M are only being offered as Competition models. That’s not because the SUVs are waiting for a standard M variant, but instead because the automaker plans to make the Competition models the new starting point for full-on M models.

The move is part of a plan to reconfigure the M lineup as the automaker looks ahead to the future. With lower-performance models like the M440i filling the gap between BMW’s regular vehicles and its high-performance models, Frank van Meel, CEO of BMW M, believes there’s no longer a need for the standard M model.

The M car lineup has become such a mess. There are too many tiers of M/M sport cars which have diluted the brand. Many of these models would be better suited under the Alpina brand.

Make the next M3 a BEV and replace the M340i and ice M3 with an Alpina B3.

Why the h€ll do they call them Competition then if it is the base model now. Do it simple.
Naah. Car buyers are gullible and are too willing to pay a premium for badges and “limited” editions.

OK Mclaren fair enough you can, well kind of understand it. Even if the 720S is more than 90% or even 99% of us will ever need.

But well 1000hp is now well just a number!

BMW M3 CS Touring Coming In 2025 With 543 HP: Report

The more hardcore wagon has already been given the production green light and we will see it in full and official form in 2025. It will reportedly feature the same improvements as the M3 CS sedan, including the 3.0-liter S58 twin-turbo inline-six engine with an output of 543 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque.

According to the preliminary information, the M3 CS Touring will also receive carbon fiber tweaks in the front fascia, a new rear diffuser, and a rear spoiler. There will be a minimal reduction in weight, comparable with the 75 pounds that the M3 CS sedan lost compared to the M3 Competition xDrive. Speaking of xDrive, the go-fast wagon is expected to send the power from the 3.0-liter mill to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.

BMW is also working on another CS member that will complement the M3 CS sedan and the potential M3 CS Touring. The M4 CS is expected to sit between the regular M4 and the hardcore M4 CSL, featuring the same straight-six engine as the M3 CS sedan. Exterior enhancements and a small weight diet will also be part of the CS package.

As for the M3 CS Touring, it is expected to be launched in limited numbers. BMW Blog reports fewer than 2,000 units are planned for production globally.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
