M3/M4 [Official] 2021 BMW M3 and M4 [G80 & G82]

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

The new cars are AWD right? Hence most of the weight gain?

I think the performance numbers are conservative. MP4S on their own adds an edge over the predecessor in a weather conditions. However, I see your point in the sense the outright pace hasn't taken a big leap forward.
BMW marketing could make it look better by posting 0-60 3.7s (on G8x) instead of 3.8s (on F8x)! What's there to be conservative? F8x 0-60 time / HP was also conservative number when first published back in 2013. This is just concerning if BMW has finally reached the limit on M3/M4 on ICE? For the record, the newly released facelift MY2020 Porsche Macan GTS with 2.9L V6 375hp sprint 0-60 in 4.0s, yet it's much more a heavier car, not sure what's the limit on the BMW? BMW should have kept investing on DTC? 992/911 Turbo S utilizing 8-speed PDK, currently claiming the drag race crown, surpassing both Porsche Taycan Turbo S and McLaren 720S!

BMW may have re-assigned more engineering resources on the EV projects than focusing on ICE? Understandably many videos are using pre-production M-car for interior review, but showing a X5M car image on an G82 M4 configuration seemed a bit rush / beta quality!

i really like the design but for f#%k‘s sake... why BMW, why the fugly hoodline? I really hate that thing!

The AWD variants will be available next summer. I don't think specs for them is available yet.
Oh crap, so these weights are for the RWD versions? I thought the AWD was std and RWD versions would come later. Funny, everyone complains of EVs being heavy, this is already as heavy as an AWD model 3 performance! The AWD version would be much heavier.

For example, the 992 Carrera 4 weights 50Kg more than RWD version. So expect similar increase in weight.

So obviously they could have made just one nice aero scoop design for the air intakes, out of plastic as stock or carbon fiber as an optional upgrade (just like the rear apron or mirror caps: one shape, two available materials). But no, they deliberately made those stock fillings in honeycomb plastic uglier to urge you to opt for the carbon package ;) And while large honeycomb usually looks sporty on its own, this particular front fascia design does look clearer and more cohesive with the optional carbon scoops

^ Yeah, those carbon scoops in the front are an absolute must have imo. Much cleaner looking.

The S58 is an all new M engine. I don't quite think so with this M3 at least...

Hello new member from one of my favorite countries...... I really, really like you!

So do you want us to stop complaining about heavy EVs because the M3 weighs as much? Gotcha.

Did BMW dropped the Carbon fiber transmission tunnel? Did they mention anything about the massive weight gain, or ignore it?

Bad day? Just pointing out, it would be inaccurate to say EVs are heavier than ICEV.

No sorry I didn't want to come over as rude. Regarding the bolded, I would still call it to be true, but it might not last much longer when EV development becomes more advanced and even less (heavy) parts are needed.

Yeah, pretty all carbon used now is vanity stuff.

The Tycan highlights the potential of performance BEVs and I suspect that the i4 will be strong rival to the M3 in outright pace.

Some of the M-Performance part should be included as stock. Other than the side fake vent failed Matt's litmus fake-vent test, he seemed to prefer M3 updates.

330i vs 330i xdrive is 82kg gain.

The xDrive system is exactly 65 kg. It's strange that this weight is the same regardless of the power of the base car, I would expect an increase in the weight with the increase of the power due to more beefed up shafts and front diff.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
