Mazda3 [Official] 2019 Mazda3 Debuts With Cutting-Edge Style And Tech In LA

The Mazda3 (known as the Mazda Axela in China and Japan -first three generations-, a combination of "accelerate" and "excellent") is a compact car manufactured by Mazda, available as a 5-door hatchback and 4-door sedan across all generations. It was first introduced in 2003 as a 2004 model, replacing the Familia/323/Protegé in the C-segment.

After ample teasing, Mazda finally unveils the smooth shape of the latest generation Mazda3 at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. Underneath the svelte skin, the Japanese automaker loads the vehicle with new features, including introducing the innovative Skyactiv-X engine with Spark-Controlled Compression Ignition.

Unfortunately, Mazda is only re-affirming the Skyactiv-X engine's availability in the new model, and the automaker doesn't offer any specs for it. Depending on the market, buyers can also get updated variants of the 1.5-, 2.0-, and 2.5-liter Skyactiv-G powerplants, and the engine features tweaks to the intake ports and pistons that allegedly improve fuel economy and performance. In some regions, there's the diesel-fueled Skyactiv-D 1.8 with revised fuel injection that boosts efficiency. A six-speed manual and automatic gearbox comprise the transmission choices.

An all-wheel-drive option will be an option for the Mazda3, but the company won't yet provide availability details for the system.

The new Mazda3 is available as a five-door hatchback and four-door sedan. Choosing the hatch gets buyers a sleeker silhouette because the roof slopes downward gently, and the curvature integrates into the tail. Conversely, the sedan has sharper lines and tauter creases at the back.

The variants share a long-slung nose. A broad grille dominates the model's face, and there are squinting headlights that lend a futuristic appearance. The skinny A-pillars would appear to offer good outward visibility from the cabin.

Lots of style and design for a car of this class. That interior is wonderful. The C-pillar on the hatch is a little thick but it and the sedan are still good looking cars. Please give it a turbo engine of some sort so the performance can match the looks.

Sensual purity galore! Top points for unique interior.

Bottom points for the dopey and bulbous rear of the hatchback.

What the hell did they do to the arse on that hatch?!? Hideous, incongruous and just plain heavy-handed. No thanks. Interior doesn't blow me away either. A "Mehzda" in relation to some of its other great designs.

interior is fly, the rear of the hatch has a hint of the Bugatti galiber, or old bugattis...looool

Hummm dare I say it, I like this interior more than the A class interior. And the whole exterior and interior design looks very premium.

Iconic. It looks like a Ferrari hatchback by Pininfarina. I approve. (y)
Although the massive C-pillar implicates huge blind spot. Ouch! Form over function. But what a form! :hungry:
Mazda design still proves to be one of the best in the industry.

Haha, I was thinking of it as a Alfa Giulieta replacement but with better reliability. ;)

Mazda3 has sat on top of the compact car heap in my book for quite awhile, and it looks like it's not ready to relinquish the throne just yet. I wish that the hatchback rear was a little bit more upright and wagonesque. Imagine that with AWD and the turbo engine. That'd be truly vroom-vroom.

You seem to be a minority here. I think the red colour and lighting sexualizes the design. In real list it will likely look slab sided and anonymous. Unless you see it from the front wouldn't guess that it's a new Mazda. However I'm willing to be proven the opposite when I see it in 2019.

The hatch looks horrible. Wtf were they thinking? The previous generation looked so much better.

The sedan looks good. I love the minimalistic interior design. It looks very premium.

Looks like AWD will be available.

One element of the interior I am not a "fan" of is the VAG-inspired fake HVAC vent in front of the passenger.
