WOW! Awesome! There's a Golf I adore and it's going to be brilliant. Mind you, someway, somehow the GTI always looks better from the front with the red stripe and GTI badge - IMO off coarse.

Love it.

With 300 HP

Following yesterday's teaser, Volkswagen has revealed the 2014 Golf R which will receive its public debut in Frankfurt next month at IAA.
The range-topping Golf is powered by the familiar 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbocharged mill which has been tweaked to provide 300 HP (221 kW), making it 30 HP (22 kW) more powerful than its predecessor. The power is delivered between 5,500 rpm and 6,200 rpm, while peak torque has gone up by 30 Nm (22 lb-ft) to 380 Nm (280 lb-ft) between 1,800 rpm and 5,500 rpm.
Improvements over the 230 HP (169 kW) GTI’s engine include new cylinder heads, exhaust valves, valve seats and springs, turbocharger, high-pressure injection valves and pistons. Power is delivered to a permanent all-wheel drive 4MOTION system with fifth-gen Haldex coupling through a six-speed manual gearbox which enables the Golf R to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.1 seconds or in 4.9 seconds when mated to the optional six-speed DSG. Regardless of transmission choice, Volkswagen has limited the top speed to 155 mph (250 km/h).
The 2014 Volkswagen Golf R consumes 7.1 liters / 100 km (33.1 mpg US or 39.7 mpg UK) and has CO2 emission of 165 g/km with the manual, while the DSG-equipped version has a fuel consumption of 6.9 liters / 100 km (34 mpg US or 40.9 mpg UK) with emissions standing at 159 g/km.
In comparison to the Golf GTI, the R version is 5mm lower and rides on 18-inch alloy wheels (19-inch optionally available). The car benefits from a MacPherson front suspension and an improved multi-link rear arrangement to provide better handling and stability.
The latest Golf R gets a more aggressive body kit with revised bumpers, side skirts, rear diffuser, smoked LED taillights and a chromed quad exhaust arrangement. Volkswagen is offering the model with standard bi-xenon headlights with newly developed built-in daytime running lights.
Moving inside there are sport seats covered in a combination of cloth and Alcantara with carbon-like leather. The new speedometer goes all the way up to 320 km/h, while the infotainment system is available with a 5-, 5.8- or an 8-inch display.
The 2014 Volkswagen Golf R will be available with two or four doors and is scheduled to go on sale in Germany in the fourth quarter of the year from a starting price of 38,325 EUR.
Full details are available in the press release section.

The exhaust pipes should be center placed.I always thought it was a basic design feature for golf R models.
+1(y) and a differentiating 'factor' or look then to the R Models.
Just like the red stripe on the GTI's grille.

Great observation btw.(y)

6-speed DSG, I wanted a 7-Speed....oh well. When this arrives in the U.S. I will be highly interested.

I've always loved the concept of a hot Golf with AWD. In my opinion, it makes for a great practical daily driver which can kick some butt too, especially in 5 door trim. The AWD means no compromise in traction in snowy winter too. I'm biased, as I used to have MkIII GTi with the slow 8V 2.0L I4 engine so I have a soft spot for hot Golfs.

I don't know how you manage to get these scoops in first Sky... :) Well done.

Had a notification on my iPad from NetCarShow.com app sometime around the time of his post may be earlier. They tend to be very quick off the mark. Same with the 458 italia speciale announced recently too.

Damn that is a fine looking automobile.

Only thing I wish they kept, would be the center exhaust pipes. The quad pipes are Audis S - mark. And the middle two have always been Golf R's mark.

I would absolutely LOVE this car as a daily cut-and-thrust driver for tonnes of unpretentious fun - over an Audi S3 (y)
