MKZ Official: 2013 Lincoln MKZ

Sorry the Lincoln, simply does not float my boat. I like the Cadillac XTS and ATS more.

That said, none of the above mentioned has anything on the Germans IMO.;)

My, that is ghastly.

Problems are:

It looks like a stereotypical old fogy car. Not a "classy old stately guy" style either, just a retired "old persons" car. Yet, it's decorated and fussified to try and give it "youthful" elements, though, they're totally superfluous and don't shake the core "retirement car" vibe this thing has.

That, and the FWD platform and proportions make it a non player.

It just might find its demographic and individuals to sell itself to, but I think that it's just a matter of time before Ford pull the plug on Lincoln. Sad, as it has its place in history, but they cannot get their new cars right, and I think it's because they try too hard and there's a clear lack of confidence and direction there, it shows in the designs.

Looking modern is simple, looking good ain't. :D

It does have a Concept-Car-y look to it, maybe that'll help it find its base. I still think the "Retirement Car" and "Future Gimmick look" are at odds with each other on it. FWD is just a deal breaker for a Luxury Car.

The greenhouse and window pillars look about identical to that new big Caddy Concept they showed I think. I really dislike that look (rear window-pillar-shutline slanted backwards, with a tiny quarter window behind it taking up the C-Pillar).

I do have to say, the car looks very modern in the live pictures.

After sleeping on it, I like it even more. I really hope it works out for Lincoln.

The live photos look great. I'm glad they didn't change it too much from the concept. It's a very clean design and I hope they are successful.

2013 Lincoln MKZ is a big step in the right direction

The 2013 Lincoln MKZ has made its long-awaited debut at the 2012 New York Auto Show. In an effort to further distance the model from the very successful Ford Fusion, the MKZ now wears a more aerodynamic and distinctive shape, complete with a new interpretation of the family's split wing grille. Max Wolff, the Lincoln design director, says the grille is supposed to invoke the image of an eagle descending on its prey, though we see more splattered butterfly in the fascia. Still, the smallish, adaptive headlight arrays and contoured hood are a huge step forward for this luxury sedan.

Out back, massive C pillars dominate the design's posterior, though the clipped tail and handsome trunk deck give the vehicle plenty of identity. Inside, the 2013 MKZ is beautifully executed as well, with attractive interiors and a clean center stack design made possible by the lack of a traditional gear selector.

The sedan will debut with a total of three driveline options, including a 2.0-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder good for 240 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque as the base engine. A 3.7-liter V6 is also available with 300 horsepower, while fuel-economy minded buyers can turn toward the MKZ Hybrid with its 188 horsepower 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and electric motor. So far, no EPA estimates are available for the hybrid, though the four-cylinder is expected to fetch 22 mpg city and 33 mpg on premium fuel. Expect to find front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants, with both non-hybrid models relying on a six-speed automatic gearbox to put power to the wheels, while the electrified four-door makes use of a CVT.

The rear is pretty unique at least. It's a different take on the Charger's style.

I dunno, this looks pretty weak overall IMO. This car is going to have to contend with the new ES350, Azera and the Buick LaCrosse. It sure is packed with features though.

You are, without a doubt, forgetting Jaguar is not German :)

But I wouldn't take the Jaguar over the Genesis. :D

..haha, had you going there aye klier! You got me, I forgot about Jaguar.

In all honesty, I don't think the look of their cars is the biggest issue... it's the brand. I'm new to America, so I didn't grow up with all these American brands. I don't really know their reputation and what they stand for. With Cadillac, their advertising has now taught me about the brand, its heritage, how Americans perceive it, and where it sits in relation to its homemade and foreign competitors. With Lincoln.... sheesh.... haven't a flaming clue ?? ...yeah they're a premium brand focused on modern luxury, but that's the type of car they make, not the type of brand they are.

Lincoln has the '65 era Continental, which is maybe the greatest Sedan of all time. Other than that, not much that resonates with me, and in modern times, the brand has been put through the ringer of unimportance. From the designated-Limo vibe of the 80's and 90's that carried into the 00's that were only sought after by Mafioso's on TV an old retirement folks (and of course, the majority being Limo drivers), and before that, the staunchly trendy "70's-ization" of the 70's cars, Lincoln has done all that they can to ruin themselves.

Now, they look like warmed over, wannabee European cars with the stench of old-person American design not coinciding with it. The Navigator scored them cool points in the late 90's, but that was short lived as people got obsessed with pointlessly huge and ridiculous SUV's (including me at the time).

Really, though, the early/mid 60's Continental is so damn cool, such an icon, such a beacon of history, it's enough to keep rooting for the brand to one day find themselves again.

With all these heritage cars coming out, why doesn't Ford apply it to Lincoln? They got obsessed with trying to be "European" that they lost the plot, now Lincoln isn't proudly American, nor is it to the quality of Europeans. We need a TASTEFUL and carefully modernized interpretation of the '65 Continental, a homage yet done with the precision and taste of M-B when it comes to giving homages to their past models. Hell, I'd even go full force into a more caricature Camaro way of doing it, as the Camaro pulled it off well, though much more cartoon-y/goofy, it still works and is a good balance.

Simply put, give us a '65 Continental again. It would be enough to save the brand. Mark my words.

5.5/10.

I can see where the designers were trying to go with this car, but the whole rear lip kinda throws it off for me. The interior looks ridiculously cheap, and the front of it looks a little forced somehow. If it were my money, it'd definitely be fusion. With the fusion, it actually seems like the vehicle fits nicely into its class, while this looks like an overly desperate attempt to say "modern" and "luxury" at the same time (none of which it succeeds in, IMO). Oh and that grille is horrendous too.

Agreed. This car isn't comfortable in its own skin. The Fusion looks more effortless, confident in its skin, and "right".
