GLE [Official] 2012 Mercedes-Benz M-Class (W166)

The Mercedes-Benz GLE, formerly Mercedes-Benz M-Class (designated with the "ML" nomenclature), is a mid-size luxury SUV produced by the German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz since 1997. In terms of size, it is slotted in between the smaller GLC and the larger GLS, the latter with which it shares platforms.
It's really weird- I was originally most concerned about the rear and the interior (solely because MB designers seem to be good at fronts), but am most pleasantly surprised by the very things I was afraid of.

However, I think the only reason the front end seems to be a let down is because of the lack of difference from the outgoing gen. But then again, I never hated the old front, and I really do think that the LED's will give it the extra oomph it needs.

I been looking at the thread from last nite i even woke up in the middle off the nite hoping to see new or official pics..

I think the model shown on page one is the AMG pack not AMG model..

The more i am seeing the car it just feels almost perfect. That interior is just WOW.

Also i really cant wait for it to come to SA ..Ill have a E sedan and the E suv lol ML..

They really do look loke a pair..Great job MB..

this is definitely the amg package, not the amg modell, no question.

the interior is not mine, i want to be more "embedded" in the car, not to be on show there. here, bmw makes a good job with their suv models, but just with the interior design.
the exterior is really nice, i'm really excited for new pics, expecially the m-class with the standard design.

I think this new ML has been the most exposed/leaked new MB in a long while. We have seen 90% accurate renderings and fully exposed interior shots for a year or more, so seeing photos of the real thing didn't bring any surprises. Good to see the designers have avoided over styling the car, unlike the previous generation with those exaggerated wheel arches. Disregarding the AMG pack, the front end is probably the softest looking design out of the new generation of MB. The AMG front bumper is typically too angular, the silver skid plate is way too chunk. I really don't know why the designers chose not to give more definition to the front wheel arches to match the rear ones. The interior is a huge improvement over the current version. MB has it absolutely right on this one.

M-B is going to have a helluva strong lineup in 2012, I gotta say....

If it is indeed the end of the world, they're going out with a bang. :D

Some new info from whatcar:

Images of the next Mercedes M-Class 4x4 have been leaked on to the internet.

The grainy photos are said to be scans from dealer brochures and seem to indicate a subtle face-lift.

The photos show that headlights, grille and rear lights have been redesigned, and that the interior has been refreshed.

There's no word yet on the engine line-up, but cleaner, more efficient engines are virtually guaranteed.

Come back to whatcar.com on Wednesday evening, when we hope to have more information on the new car.

No no...It's definetely the AMG sport version, but not the big AMG version.

The standard trim will look something along the lines of this:

With double round foglamps.

Thanks for the official pics, guys!

The normal version looks just as good as AMG/Sport package.
As expected, no diamond-pattern stitching on normal models. (I wonder what the "Edition1" plaque is?)
4 different wood finishes, 21-inch wheels = awesome.
306 horsepower for the gasoline model is finally on par with base Cayenne/X5 (6 more than each) but the torque is less than both of them. Acceleration is also a bit slower than the Porsche and BMW.
I'm looking forward to see the improvements in fuel economy as the current model's MPG is considerably behind its European and Japanese competitors.
Both diesels won't be available in the US, right?

HUGE improvement over current model.

...and top speed is 146 mpg

:D :D :D

I think it looks very nice, better than Cayenne and X5..
But i was hoping for 3rd row, it doesn't look like new M has it?

I agree, it looks great. Only thing is that the AMG pack model looks a little heavy handed from the full frontal view, but other than that this is the ML to have it appears. The interior is miles better than anything ML before it. Wait for the ML550 with a different look from the rest of the range as the GL550. Loving it so far.

Sport version looks a lot better. What an upgrade on the interior! I was thinking E class for my next car, though I want a CLS but out of my range... Now I'm thinking ML!

I love the seats; they remind me of BMW's (that's a good thing!). The Edition 1 combo looks nice, but I much prefer the black/tan.

According to LeftLaneNews, the presentation of the new ML took place today. This means we should see live pictures soon...
