That and exterior dimensions. Would be good to see an overlay with E53 X5.

Thanks mogi. Jeepers, new X3 is quite a porker - wasn't aware of that.
I've checked both new and old catalogs. The old xDrive2.0d with weaker engine (130kw) weights 1,815kg, while the new one with 135kW weights 1,790kg. Old 3.0d (160kW) 1,885kg, new 3.0d (190kW) 1,875kg. Old 2.5i (160kW) 1,830kg, new 2.8i (190kW) 1,820kg. Old 3.0i (200kW) 1,840kg, new 3.5i (225kW) 1,880kg. Not to mention the new X3 is 80mm longer and 30mm wider than the old X3. The cabin space has been improved, and the trunk space even more (550 liters versus 480 liters in the old X3). IMO that's quite good achievement.
Sorry Dave, I honestly didn't realise that the previous generation X3 was as heavy as you've shown. Hence, my surprise at the weight of the new car. So, in fact, you're correct in saying that the new X3 is an improvement in terms of weight over the old car. At 1800 kilo's I'd never had guessed.
I did some quick investigation, and made this comparison. Right, these "small" trucks are heavy.I did some quick investigation, and made this comparison.
I find the results very surprising. All data for the cars with automatic gearbox.
Q5 2.0TDI Quattro S-tronic (125kW) weights 1,895kg. (0-100km in 9.9s, max speed 200km/h)
GLK 220CDI 4matic 7G-tronic (125kW) weights 1,845kg. (0-100km in 8.8s, max speed 205km/h)
Volvo XC60 D3 AWD (120kW) weights massive 1,920kg. (0-100km in 10.9s, max speed 190km/h)
New X3 xDrive2.0d Steptronic (135kW) weights "only" 1,800kg. (0-100km in 8.5s, max speed 210km/h)
X3 xDrive2.0d also has the lowest consumption of only 5.6L/100km (CO2 147g/km).
GLK 220 CDI 4matic drinks 6.7L/km (CO2 167g/km).
Q5 2.0TDI Quattro 7.0L/100km (CO2 184g/km).
XC60 D3 AWD 7.0L/100km (CO2 184g/km).
I can only say BMW did quite a good job with the new X3 (xDrive2.0d).

I was seriously disappointed with the X3. It's clearly better looking than the outgoing model but it's still no looker. The interior on the black X3 at Paris felt very cheap indeed, just like the X1. The black panel technology was even smaller than on the official photos of the X3, so I don't know what box you have to tick to get the black panel tech as shown in the BMW pics.
Q5 for me without a doubt.

So, Betty the tactile quality is more X1 that F10 5 series!?![]()
Well, the X3 I was sat in was an entry level model, but that still means a hefty selling price. It felt cheap.
