R-Class [Official] 07' Mercedes-Benz R63 AMG debuts in Chicago

The Mercedes-Benz R-Class (W251) is a mid-size luxury MPV introduced by Mercedes-Benz in 2005 for the 2006 model year. The R-Class shared its platform with the M-Class (W164) and GL-Class (X164) and was available in two wheelbase lengths: standard 2,980 mm (117.3 in) and long 3,215 mm (126.6 in).
hu§eindesign: sorry bro if I offended u by saying "needless" :D

lol what I meant is that this car is needless "at this time only". because AMG has been lazy lately in doing their job effeciently. the latest products are hardly distiguishable from its entry level models. I mean their job is "mainly" limitted to adding new body kit and thorugh the engine they have. I mean look at M division in BMW. They really worked hard to finalize their latest products like the M5, M6 and Z4M. M5 as an example shares almost 15% only with regular 5 series models. where the E55 looks like upgraded E500 (sportpack version).

No offense but AMG should work harder. Lately, it is very rare that an AMG model have beaten any of its rivals (German ofcourse).

Regards

I'm not offended, why should I? I was just responding :D

Sorry but I have to disagree. AMG engines are more than 90% different than the original MB engine. The new 63 engine is a 100% AMG developement withought any parts from an exixting MB engine. That's one of the reasons why AMG people go crazy when when you all them "tuners". They say that they're "developers", and I have to agree with them. They develope their cars parallely with MB. AMG is just like M (don't know much about Quattro) more than a tuner.

Note to all members: When you start a new thread of a new model that attracts interest , like this one, post small pics (below 500 pixels wide) so we can make the thread to appear in the first page of the site.

BTW. Good work with this thread Deutsch. :usa7uh:

I'm not sure I understand this post. AMG does just as much to their cars as BMW does to their to transform them from regular to AMG/M models. New engine, brakes, retuned suspension and what not. BMW offers the same "M" kit on their "regular" cars too. You can get a 535d to look just like an M5 if you like, just like a Mercedes E500/E55. There is no way possible that a M5 only shares 15 percent of its parts with a regular 5-Series. That claim I'd need to see in writing. The M5 might be more focused on the track, but that doesnt' mean it nearly a whole new car.

I've never said that AMG doesn't put enough effort in their cars and i definitely don't see AMG cars like dressed up standard cars with monster engines inside, no! I was talking here about a ridiculous product - a 510hp VAN/Sport Tourer. Nobody can convince me that it was a good thing from MB, nobody! Imho, a nice V8 550 engine is more than enough for this car. You want it to look even more sportier? Buy yourself a SP and that's it. Leave AMG versions for E, SL, CLS, CLK and SLK.... Oh yeah, and please, pleeease produce a B AMG, that sounds more logical to me... much more!

I don't disagree with any of this, but if they're going to do a AMG B why not a AMG ML? The R I agree with though, only after seeing it in production form. For some reason that concept AMG R looked much better to me. It had to be the wheels and the killer grey color.

the car looks sick with AMG kit but for crying out loud who would buy a MPV or whatever they call it with 500 HP ???????

Now i'm confused... Why not a AMG ML? The what's ML63 AMG?

I was just saying that if they're going to do a AMG B-Class then why is wrong for them to do a ML63?

Who said it's wrong? I didn't! ML AMG hasbeen produced for many years already and it's selling well. Nothing wrong with that one. :usa7uh:

First things first:

When are we going to see this engine in MB's sports cars?!

Today, when you produce a 500hp SUV you can be sure there's market for that, but here, we're talking about VAN/Sport Tourer, however you want, and thet's something completely new, something that noone has done before (500hp version i mean).

That's exactly it Tycoon. I'm sure everyone said the same thing when a high-performance SUV first came out - no one had done anything like it, it was totally unique and there was nothing else like it in the marketplace. They were taking a risk, and obviously it succeeded, so much so.

That's what MB is trying to recreate with the R63 AMG. They are doing something that's totally unique and so absurd to the current mindset that we're bound to say "This is ridiculous!" But, like the high-performance SUV, the high-performance MPV might be the next big thing.

Yes, good point, TS. Same thing like with 1st SUV model with monster AMG engine, i agree. It's just that i don't see any success with this one, VAN/MPV/Sport Tourer whatever with monster engine. I might be wrong though and as i've said if it meets MB's expectations i withdraw everything i've said. But (as i only speak for myself) for me that's ridiculous and i wouldn't buy one ever. They want a market/customer feedback and since i can afford one without problem i can consider myself as a customer, so here's form me: No way! No way i'm gonna spend like what? More than 100k for a MPV, not even AMG. Hell no!

I wish them success with this one, but i don't think it's going to happen. It's a risk that already costs too much and might cost even more. We'll see...

:t-cheers:

This is what I wanted!!

What the hell happened? Is it the rims and color of this thing that make the production model look so tame? What else is different? This the R63 I wanted!

M

hehe merc1 you were dreaming'!

for sure it looks better in this color and with this rims but perhaps you can have them in options with a lot of $$
