Cayenne Next Generation Porsche Cayenne (spy pics & info)

The Porsche Cayenne is a series of automobiles manufactured by Porsche since 2002. It is a luxury crossover SUV, and has been described as both a full-sized and a mid-sized vehicle.
Design is one thing, but why not just buy a Q5 3.0 TDI??? Pretty much exactly the same car technically. An utter shame.
For the same reason as some currently buy a Cayenne V6 and not an VW Touareg. ;)

Best regards, south

Common misconception. Just because two cars share platform doesn't mean that they are identical. The Cayenne, Toureg and Cayenne share platform but carry zero resembles of one another. All three cars have different dimensions and driving characteristics light years apart.

and why bmw has x5 and x6?

wow, are you serious??? BMW is ONE brand.

An Audi A4 is a VW Passat with eyeliner....I just very much PRAY Porsche will at least keep developing it's own unique platforms, technology and engines...but the future doesn't look bright...Centurion buys into the marketing and thinks the cars are 'light years apart', I think it's just tweaking the same stuff.

Marketing has nothing to do with this discussion. The E-class and Chrysler 300C share platform but they are as different can be, the same applies to the W140 S-class and Maybach. I encountered a man that owns a Cayenne TT and the top of the range Toureg and when asked about the differences he told me that they are two different cars.

Platform isn't everything other things like body, structure, material use, suspension, engine mapping, gearbox and differential and very decisive of how a car behaves.

Well if technically many Audis are "VW with eyeliner", I assure you there is no way you can say that by driving them. They are indeed "as different as it can be", just like the E-Class and 300C.
It's only the Americans who don't understand how to differentiate two cars sharing the platforms. An Audi feels just completely different from his VW-relatives.

However, the Cayennes does resemble the Touareg, which is not a good thing. And I agree with you, Porsche shouldn't take too much from VW. For instance the diesel-V6, that is truly a nightmare. I hope Porsche stays away from doing this once again.

You can, if you want, make two very different cars out of the same platform. I hope Porsche remembers it and takes time to make their cars true Porsches, which is not completely the case with the Cayenne especially in diesel.

So is it confirmed that it will be built on the Q5 platform ?
Cayenne on a Q5 platform...that will be a really good car....NOT!!!:t-banghea:t-banghea:t-banghea
Porsche must have a new strategy: "Hire all the idiot and moron accountants you can find to design cars". It's the only way I can explain their current SUV strategy.
I drive a Cayenne, so I can understand a bit what they're trying to do...the current Cayenne feels very heavy...it's not very sporty at all. On the track, even the old generation X5 was better and faster. Just because it has the 911 front transplanted on it doesn't make it handle like a 911.
Leg room in the back is quite small in the current generation, so if they build the next generation on the Q5 platform you'll probably have the same legroom as in the 911 (which is only enough for people without legs). However, a two-seat SUV still won't be as sporty as a 911.
On top of that, the price will probably be at least 10,000 euros higher than the equivalent Q5 or X3....just because of the badge, not PERFORMANCE.
On top of all of this there will be a 3 liter diesel?! In a Porsche?!:t-crazy2: What's next? 1 liter, 65 BHP diesel from the VW Fox mated to a laptop battery?!
I think that instead of making it smaller and uglier, they should try to make it the same size, but with better weight distribution, weight reduction and suspension (like the X5).
Writing this post, I'm having a very hard time trying to figure out why I bought a Cayenne in the first place :t-banghea
Anyway, I don't want to come to a conclusion until I see the official car, but so far, to me, it looks like it's going to be a real disaster!
:t-cheers:

It looks pretty much ready , my guess Oct. '09 as 2010 model .

Good looking, the rear will be great on that car. How much smaller than the current model will this be?

Quite a bit is my guess. From the Q7/Touareg platform to the Q5 platform....

But if the Cayenne goes smaller then how will it compete with the ML, X5, Q7, Touareg...?

It will not? Porsche is keeping to its core business, one step at the time - letting Mercedes, VW and others that are known to make truckish cars do that.

Present Cayenne : WB = 5 x 'wheel'
L = appx 7.7 x 'wheel'

Next Cayenne : WB = 5 x 'wheel'
L = appx 7.8 x 'wheel' (camo on front bumper)

As both Cayennes are on the same wheels (21")- common 'etalon' , we can conclude that both Cayennes are practically the same size / platform .

Going smaller is a good move, I agree. Porsche is not the brand to have more than 1 SUV, so they can't make them in different sizes like the other German brands.

The 300C is based off an ancient version of the E class, and cannot even be compared to the CURRENT E-class, which will be replaced in mere months...
Also, isn't the Maybach based off the W220????

Yeah, a 20k price difference ;)

Nope. It's based on the W140 while utilising some w220 components. Surprise surprise :)

Sweet Jesus, what a relic.....and they wonder why the car doesn't sell :all_cohol

Are you sure the rims are the same size? I see the shape is the same, but the rims on the old Cayenne appear to be much bigger. Just look at the brake discs...
