Cayenne Next Generation Porsche Cayenne (spy pics & info)

The Porsche Cayenne is a series of automobiles manufactured by Porsche since 2002. It is a luxury crossover SUV, and has been described as both a full-sized and a mid-sized vehicle.
Reading this thread, it's funny to see how things turned out...
I mean compared to X6, this new Cayenne looks very, very much like a normal SAV....

Anyways...new pics, a whole fleet :D :

Remember that this is the number 1 family car in Porsche's lineup and they wouldn't want to alienate loyal customers who guy the Cayenne for practicality. BMW on the other hand has room to play with the X6 since they have other SUVs to offer like the X3, X5 and the X1 that's on the way. But the car should look more sporty than the X5, ML and current Cayenne thanks to the slanted rear end.

I'm sorry, but is this an Audi or a Porsche? I hope it's just good camo...

The reason you might mistake the size and shape for an Audi is because the car is based on the Q5 rather than the Touareg like the first generation Cayenne. Porsche are aiming to make a more road focused Cayenne in a slightly lighter package. On the other hand, interior space will be a bit more generous compared with the Q5.

Ιt looks like a Porsche to me...:D

It won't be based in Q5 but rather to Q7 (=modified 1st gen Touareg/Cayenne Chassis).

Is the next generation going to be much smaller thn the current?

Will they still have an S, GTS and Turbo model with the same engines as right now?

Any specs available from anyone?

Yes the line-up will pretty much be the same as the current one, and the same applies for the engines.

Hassan: is the rear Fake ? I mean is their any cladding glued to the back or the windowline will be as shown in the pictures but thicker D-pillar ?

Like I've illustrated rear end sections from the current Cayenne have been glued on to the corners of the test mules disguising the real lights hidden beneath. As for the D-pillar it won't be thicker and the real shape of it is clear visible if you ignore the deceiving white marker outlining a fake green house.

The car is about 18 months away from launch so what we see here is production ready mules with cladding on the bonnet, front bumper, head lights and rear corners.

so the triangle in the front window is back in porsche ? both the new cayenne and panamera represent them ..

MY ONLY complain .. overhangs ... although being tall but most of my friends say that the cayenne has the best off road capabilities of the german .... including the G glass ! the S version not the turbo ...

Is the new Cayenne going to be smaller than the current model ? Or is it just the styling because the new model looks smaller than the current one.

Could be a little smaller, hmmm... Might just be the styling though, a very clever thing to do.

It's a combination of both. Don't think the size is going to be smaller to a high degree since Porsche wouldn't want to alienate their customers. Believe it or not but the Cayenne is a very popular family car and work horse.

More details on Porsche’s next-generation Cayenne SUV

Prototypes for Porsche’s next-generation Cayenne have been spotted testing in Germany on several occasions, revealing crucial details for the new SUV which is expected to go on sale by May 2010. First and foremost, we know the next Cayenne will be smaller than the current model although it will still share a common platform with the next-generation Volkswagen Touareg and Audi Q7, both of which are not expected to change significantly in size compared with the current models.

The smaller size of the new Cayenne agrees with Porsche’s desire to create a much more hard-core performance SUV than the current model, which has been criticized for being too heavy. The wheelbase will be shortened by almost 4cm, while the height will be reduced by 2cm, reports AutoBild. Other details include a taller waistline and LED daytime running lights.

Like the current model, the Cayenne will be built alongside the Touareg and Q7 in Volkswagen Group’s Bratislava plant in Slovakia. Unfinished Cayennes will then be transported to Porsche’s Leipzig plant for final assembly.

Once again both V6 and V8 petrol engines will be on offer, but a new turbodiesel V6 and as well as a petrol-electric hybrid model to be shared with the upcoming Panamera sedan will be included in the new lineup. Power will increase across the range over the current model’s levels but emissions and fuel-economy will be reduced.

Kicking off the range will be an Audi-sourced 3.0L V6 turbodiesel with about 240hp (179kW) on tap. This will be followed by a 3.6L petrol V6 with 330hp (246kW) and a 400hp (298kW) 4.8L naturally aspirated V8. The Cayenne S will get a 420hp (312kW) version of this V8 engine, while a 500hp-plus (373kW) twin-turbocharged V8 will be reserved for the Turbo model. Finally, the hybrid model will feature the 330hp (246kW) V6 engine coupled with a 45hp (34kW) electric motor powered by nickel metal hydride batteries initially and lithium-ion units further down the track.

All engines will include Porsche’s new direct-injection technology, and some could even be matched to the carmaker’s new dual-clutch gearbox. Expect to see 0-60mph times of less than five seconds for top end models and top speeds in excess of 180mph.
