Q7 Next generation Audi Q7 - CGIs, info, spy pics

Hm. o_O

It looks rather small & short for a Q7. It's smaller than the current Q7 (eg. much shorter 3rd side window; shorter roof; more rakish rear window etc). Will the new Q7 will really be smaller than the current model? Or are we looking at some sort of Q6 prototype here?

I spotted the prototype on the highway near Verona, Italy the other day ... And found it rather small-ish IRL too. Not at all as big as current Q7. Hardly the same size of eg. X5, Cayenne etc. Perhaps they just hide the size with better proportions than on current Q7, I don't know. It was a really quick encounter, but my first impression was the car was smaller than the current Q7. It also looked more boxy - but that could be due to heavy camo though.

From what we can see, yes, it look more smaller beside current version. That's a good thing

I reacted on that too. It looks way smaller. Maybe the design is so much better, so it somehow just looks smaller. Or its maybe a Q6 or something.

^When you actually see a direct comparison between the two the difference isn't that huge, possibly more of a slope on the rear window.

If then a Q7 and not a Q6, IMO very neat proportions indeed. Sleek, sporty and the way it should be. More a Cayenne-ish car will be more universally acceptable in this class.

Should lose about 800 lbs

The next generation of the Audi Q7 has been spied undergoing testing near the European beaches.
The new SUV from Ingolstadt will ride on Volkswagen Group's new MLB architecture which will also underpin the Bentley crossover, Lamborghini Urus, along with the next generations of the Touareg and Porsche Cayenne. As a result of the platform switch, the new Audi Q7 is expected to shave off no less than 800 lbs (363 kg).
Due most likely towards the end of 2014 as a 2015MY, the next-gen Audi Q7 will probably be offered with a wide array of engines including a V6 3.0-liter TFSI churning 310 HP (228 kW) and a larger V8 4.0-liter twin-turbo outputting 435 HP (320 kW). Diesel offerings should encompass a V6 3.0-liter TDI rated at 258 HP (190 kW) and a V8 4.2-liter TDI developing 385 HP (283 kW). Chances are Audi is also planning a plug-in hybrid derivative which should use a 3.0-liter TDI and an electric motor developing 115 HP (84 kW).

2015 Audi Q7 spied testing in Germany

Seems smaller

Our spies have sent a fresh batch of photos with next generation of the Audi Q7 set for a 2015 market release.
Last time we saw a 2015 Q5 prototype was near the European beaches and now the car has been spotted somewhere in Germany undergoing handling tests ahead of what will be a 2014 reveal as a 2015MY. By the looks of these photos the new Q7 seems to be a bit smaller than the current model and it also appears to be lower.
The new Q7 will reportedly lose as much as 363 kg (800 lbs) and will get several six- and eight-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines, including a 310 HP V6 3.0-liter TFSI and a 385 HP V8 4.2-liter TDI. There will also be a plug-in hybrid version equipped with a 3.0-liter TDI and a 115 HP electric motor.
It will likely be shown to the public next March at the Geneva Motor Show or several months later at the Paris Motor Show in September.

The original Q7 had a unique design to all other SUVs so I reckon the styling will continue, I happened to like it though I know others didn't. It's just one of those designs which polarizes opinion.

Agreed, it looks like a bloated A6 wagon rather than a proper 4WD/SUV.

IRL the prototype looks like some sort of a current "Q7 Sport" variant. Quite wagon-esque indeed. And the proportions (or it was the camo?) made the new Q7 prototype looking / appearing smaller than the current Q7. It certainly doesn't have the minibus-like appearance of the current Q7. The proportions of the new one look much much better. I wonder how the CrosslaneCoupeConcept-like design details will look on Q7. I'm afraid some of the notorious Audi elegance will be gone with that rather protrusive front & rear (which would work great on a smaller, less luxurious SAV).

Hi, first time posting here, I wanted to know, since the next gen Q7 seems to maintain roughly the same size, about 200 inch. long, with the arrival of the Q1, you have the Q3, would this mean the next gen Q5 be longer? As it is right now audi does not have a true competitor to the x5 and range rover sport, Q7 has the GL as a competitor

SUV comparing is hard to generalize as each manufacturer has their take on what is the right size in each category, the Q3 compares best with the current X1/RR Evoque, the Q5 with the X3/XC60, the Q7 with both the RR Sport/RR/XC90/X5/ML/GL. I think price point is a better judge as to where a manufacturer sees their product than pigeonholing based on size alone.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
