A6/S6/RS6 Next Generation Audi A6 (C7)

New A6 might debut the production version of LED light configuration first observed on the A7 concept. Slightly different shape but could be?

The front lights sure look very different from the ones in the spyshots... :eusa_thin

In a special presentation outlining the vehicles Audi plans to manufacture at its upgraded plant in Neckarsulm, Germany, we have received confirmation that the all-new 2012 Audi A6 will enter production by the end of this year at the site.

Audi released the statement: "2010 is the year of production starts for the Neckarsulm site. In addition to the Audi R8 Spyder, A8, A8 L and A7 Sportback, production of the new Audi A6 is also scheduled to start this year."

Along with the statement Audi also released the above teaser image (which has been cropped) showing the A6 shrouded in a white cloth. Unfortunately, very few details can be gathered from the teaser but previous spy shots below reveal a very similar look to the 2011 Audi A8 will be adopted for the new A6. Building on technologies first developed in the TT platform, the next-generation 2012 Audi A6 is expected to use the latest Aluminum and Steel Spaceframe (ASF II) technology as its base. Audi has developed the lightweight ASF II technology to provide a platform that weighs half as much as steel, but is one and a half times as rigid. ASF technology allows the chassis to be built from a conglomeration of bonded subframe members, modular nose and tail structures and a passenger cell made of aluminum with steel and foam reinforcements.

A full line of engines is expected for the A6, from a 2.8-liter V-6 pushing 190 horsepower to a possible new twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 with close to 400 horsepower horsepower. This latter unit is expected to replace the 5.2-liter V-10 in the current Audi A6 and will also appear in some Bentley models. Two turbodiesel engines are also expected, a 2.7-liter V-6 making 185 horsepower and a 3.0-liter V-6 with 238 horsepower.

Expect to see the 2012 Audi A6 only make its sales debut in the first half of 2011.

^^^^
If its looking like that, then it has no chance against the e-class and 5er series.

:t-cheers:

Agreed.

That front even looks terrible. The proportions, and shapes, bumper, grille, etc.

Audi's made some of the best looking front ends in the business during the last 4 or so years, but if this is where it's evolving to, I'm thinking they're gonna be giving that up.

^Everyone questioned the design and appearance of the A7 from photos but I have yet to hear anyone that has seen it in person continue to question it's design.

I said wait to see the new A6 in the fresh and then make your judgement.

A little gentlemens' prediction ?

I predict that the upcoming C7 Audi A6 will become the best selling car in its' respective market segment in Europe as soon as the Avant version is available at dealers.

You heard it here first, folks ;)

Sadly, it is 100% true..

I would have rated the E90 and E92 to look almost identical until you see them side by side. This is true for most Audis because of the use of the corporate grille but side by side none of the models look the same. Similar yes but not the same and definitely not identical.

^^ Next week what? Will we see it next week??

You don't want to hear it ;) That's a whole different story. I will see the A7 soon irl, and I already know it will be an epic failure.

Next week... ;)

It indeed appears that Audi AG is in the process of distributing A6 press packages to, among others, the various European automotive publications. In todays' editon of Autobild, nexts weeks' edition is previewed and one of the items will be the "first official photographs of Audis' new A6".

I suspect that we will actually be seeing the first official photos prior to the next Autobild issue (December 3rd) hitting the newsstands in the form of an Internet release. Anywhere between now and the next few days, I reckon.

Sorry, Klier. Harboring an affinity or aversion towards an automobile (or any other object, for that matter) is simply an element of human nature and usually based on criteria that is, for the most part, subjective. So lambasting the A7 is fair game.

But I am quite certain that the A7 will be anything but an epic failure. In fact, this car is going to prove to be a very large headache for Mercedes' CLS, Jaguars' XF and other cars of this sort. BMW has a massive task at hand with its' upcoming 6 series Gran Coupe (although that car, judging by F13 prices, will be considerably more expensive than the A7 and thus not really a direct competitor being a more upmarket offering.).

Speculation regarding presentation date seems to be consolidating around Wednesday, December 1st.

I really wonder whether the new A6 will be a pleasant looking, albeit predictable, automobile or a genuine eye catcher. Hoping for the latter but anticipating the former.

Oh well, perhaps my personal, subjective A7 phenomena will reoccur. First photographs of the A7 left me a bit indifferent, underwhelmed. But my IRL experience was a whole different matter. Saw one this morning in oncoming traffic with its' LED headlamps blazing. Really amazing stance that becomes accentuated when compared with other cars navigating the traffic. Low and wide, very planted.

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
