I know, I really want to like it, especially when it has such a gorgeously crafted interior. But so many of the exterior design cues have been done on prior Audi's, there's no novelty.

And, Audi, this is pointed at you... different LED bulb/strip patterns does not help in differentiating between models.

Was at an Audi dealer today and checked out the new A8!

Well, summary for the exterior is very easy: BORING! It real looks like a bigger A4 and the current facelifted A6 next to it looked even fresher. The tearoff edge at the boot is quite difficult and make me missing the fantastic merged parts at the rear of the A8 D3 - especially after seeing a W12 two minutes later.

Nevertheless the interior is a complete different story. First tested the drivers seat (car was equipped with the optional comfort-sport seats (with massage and ventilation function)! Damn, they are comfortable - and then it blew off my mind: Wanted to adjust the seat position and touched a button in front of the control unit - the display poped up and there were "thousands" of different positions I could use:

- seat jowls (hope translation is correct)
- jowls of the sides
- upper part of the seat (like we already known of the BMW Comfort Seats)

and a lot more options…there are also about 7 massage programs, sadly I couldn't try them, because you need to start the car then, and I was at the showroom…

I also tried the new touchpad in combination with the MMI! That is one great new "technology". You can use the touchpad very intuitive and it can identify every scrawl writing. Was a bit dissapointed of the new MMI generation though. It lost the perfect configuration and control, because of the new playful design…would have loved to try the voice control though…but was also not available!

So the new A8 is one fantastic and great car…the interior is just stunning (lots of space in the rear, I forgot to mention - even in the SWB version)! Those seats were one of the best, I've ever tried (comfort and sportiness). Nevertheless still not very convinced of the exterior design! And it's difficult to say, if I would choose this car over a 7 or S.

Front design is a different story (especially in that photo with bright colour and LED headlights) - my biggest problem really is the rear end! Car could look good with nice rims and a nice colour…but the rear looks boring every time.

the rear just completes it in a more neutral manner, not trying to compete with the rest! if taken separately it could be seen as boring, but what we have got here is a pinnacle of audi's understated design language, latest interpretation of their theme known across the entire line-up, which also reflects the predecessor in honoring, not neglecting, it's purposeful and still fresh design. Masterpiece with substance!

Okay, I have to admit, that this is right…the overall design is conclusive without being bothersome - a lot of understatement for such a big limousine.
Nevertheless I would have liked to see even more curly lines and a streaming design…

I am with darkop and a few others in the minotiy here, this car has really grown on me. I see understated regal elagance in this car, and something different. I like it.

I visited the new Audi Center Oulu today. They had the new A8 there, and I was impressed to say the least. I think it works well in the metal; granted, it's not the most exciting car in the world but it's not supposed to be either. I absolutely loved the interior and the (optional) seats the car was fitted with. All in all, if I had the spare €195K (that's €95,000 + options + taxes) to spend on a luxury car the A8 specced just like that one would be on the top of my list.

my brother and my dad, who had own bmw 3er and 7er respective, saw the new a8 and thought it was exactly what they wanted; understated, elegant, luxurious, and futuristic.

brother is a die-hard bmw fan, and dad a die-hard mb fan (beside 7er, he had own a W140, and currently drives a W221), interesting reactions from them non-audi fans. audi must have done something right.

The first one arrived at the dealership on this week, getting PDIed when I had a look round it and it's not as stunning looking as the XJ but it still is a good looking car, but it's real selling point in the attention to detail in the interior, this is a place one could happily spend the odd hour in a queue.

Just forget about - the drivers of countries with right hand drive have to use the touchpad with their left hand :D Would be perfect for me - I'm left-handed.

So, you’re lucky to head home for the night in Audi’s new A8, and set about trying to impress your girlfriend with its multitude of gadgets. Our car had everything from heated and cooled seats, night vision with pedestrian recognition, headlights that work with the sat-nav, adaptive cruise control that can brake the A8 to a standstill, plus speed limit detection, lane change warning devices, parking cameras, and a very impressive Bang & Olufsen sound system with 19 speakers.

Was she impressed? Was she heck.

Instead, the only thing that got any attention was the touchpad. Think of it as the next-gen version of Audi’s MMI dial, as rather than having to twist and twiddle your way to each letter, you just scrawl it out with a finger. There are over 25,000 characters stored in the A8’s memory banks, and it works brilliantly. Except that wasn’t what impressed her – instead, she used it draw everything from cats and mice, to genitalia (it’s the former that I’ve posted online for obvious reasons), and declared it the perfect way to keep her occupied on long journeys. So much for the 10.8-inch tv screens in the back.

The Audi A8 – it’s an £80k Etch A Sketch.

I saw the new A8 in real life for the first time today - a black one. First impression - the grill is too big - almost cartoonishly big. While the rest of the car is just ordinary.

The previous S8 was my favorite one of the class, so hopefully they do something to new one to fix it.

And I think the current one is a yawn. But I like the photo's of the new one, it has really grown on me. Very regal, conservative and understated. On my short list actually.:usa7uh:

Audi

Audi AG is a German automotive manufacturer of luxury vehicles headquartered in Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany. A subsidiary of the Volkswagen Group, the company’s origins date back to the early 20th century and the initial enterprises (Horch and the Audiwerke) founded by engineer August Horch (1868–1951). Two other manufacturers (DKW and Wanderer) also contributed to the foundation of Auto Union in 1932. The modern Audi era began in the 1960s, when Volkswagen acquired Auto Union from Daimler-Benz, and merged it with NSU Motorenwerke in 1969.
