S-Class Mercedes-Maybach S600 Previewed

The Mercedes-Benz S-Class, formerly known as Sonderklasse, is a series of full-sized luxury sedans and coupés produced by Mercedes-Benz. The S-Class is the designation for top-of-the-line Mercedes-Benz models and was officially introduced in 1972 with the W116, and has remained in use ever since. The S-Class is the flagship vehicle for Mercedes-Benz, being positioned above the other Mercedes-Benz models.

New Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Photo

Here's one more picture of Daimler's super luxurious Mercedes-Maybach S-Class that will be celebrating its world premiere in Guangzhou and Los Angeles this week.

This latest cropped photo reveals the quarter rear window and the C-pillar that bears the Maybach emblem. We already know from the previous official shots that the car will have plush seating for two with individual electrically adjustable rear seats that look similar to the ones used on the discontinued Maybach 57 and 62.

According to the German firm, "Mercedes‑Maybach is not an equipment line – it is a sub-brand that in future will deliver Mercedes-Benz vehicles in an even more exclusive form".

As evidenced from earlier prototypes, the Mercedes-Maybach S600 will ride on an extra-long-wheelbase version of the S-class, with power to come from the Stuttgart brand's twin-turbocharged 6.0-liter V12 engine.

The Mercedes-Maybach S600 will be followed the next year by an even longer and equally luxurious Pullman edition, believed to have seating for up to six passengers.

Wolfgang,
given that there will undoubtedly be some customers wanting an S65 Maybach .......will this eventually be available?

Suspect it might follow a little later, SDNR, as we've seen protoypes already and AMG may also have given a hint with the picture below, where the left most model under the covers might be a Mercedes-Maybach S 65 AMG? :)

I stay at my opinion: the Maybach badge earns his OWN car and not ''just'' an longer S-Class.
If Daimler hasnt enough money for his own Maybach, then they just shouldnt have it.
Or they should freeze the Brand like they alredy did in the 50's.
Sorry but this is just like BMW would give his 7-series an extra wheel base and would name it RollsRoyce !
Its the most rediculous thing, that Daimler could do.

They could name it just XXL and it would be quite more logical, without damaging the brand Maybach.

But with this move, they just reduced the image of Maybach - a big shame Daimler !

OMG! A Mercedes-AMG-Maybach S65 S 4Matic! Can't wait. :shifty:
Better make that Mercedes-AMG-Maybach A65 S 4MATIC. Black Series optional. :dead:

Who knows, maybe one day, if Maybach sub-brand becomes successful like the AMG is today, it too can make its own bespoke model (like the SLS and GT are to the AMG).

An update from Maybach engine builder Michael Kübler. :)

Maybach is on its way back. The S600 Maybach hits the dealerships in Spring 2015. I post the last cars of the Maybach Brand here with a engine build from me. The History about Maybach: Wilhelm Maybach was an engineer who worked with Gottlieb Daimler to design combustion engines. The first Daimler-Maybach automobile was built in 1889. Over the years, the Maybach name developed into a brand name for automobiles that were typically very large, powerful, and luxurious. Daimler presented a luxury concept car at the 1997 Tokyo Motorshow. A production model based on it was introduced in two sizes – the Maybach 57 and the Maybach 62, reflecting the lengths of the automobiles in decimetres. The first Maybach was produced and delivered in 2002. In 2005, the 57S, 2006 the 62S, 2007 the 62S Landaulet and 2009 the Maybach Zeppelin 57/62 was added to the Maybach family. Daimler closed the Maybach production in the end of 2012 after 3000 produced cars. Here you can see the Maybach Zeppelin 57/62 powered by a MercedesAMG M285 V12 biturbo 6.0L 640HP and 1000Nm of Torque. Handcrafted by Michael Kübler@f1mike28 in Germany Affalterbach. Driving Performance is our Passion!

On the surface your argument is reasonable but we must remember that Daimler aren't in business to keep the fanboys happy .......they have to be realistic and give the market what it wants.

Daimler were burned (financially and ego) by the "unspectacular" sales performance of Maybach.
However (and I hate to sound like a broken record because I've said this before) the marketing of the Maybach brand was first class and highly successful. The Maybach cars might not have set the world alight but they were universally recognised as a legitimate competitor to Rolls-Royce and Bentley. The Maybach brand has achieved cult status in Popular culture and is highly regarded as a symbol of luxury and quality all over the world. It usually takes decades to foster a respected high-end brand like this ........it's not something you just walk away from.

Keeping the Maybach brand alive (even if it is just a badge) in the meantime, may see it grow into a more direct competitor for the Phantom in future.

So for now we will get a extended wheelbase version of the best car in the world .......I can't see how this is not as a suitable competitor for the Ghost at least. After all, remember the Ghost is largely based on a 7 Series.

So to some extent, we can safely say that the S-Bach is a ghost "competitor" since the ghost is a 7-series in a dolce and gabana suit. But the only problem with that is that most people who buys this really won't know or even care that it's a fancy 7-series, they only thing that care about is the RR badge.

^ ha ha, I didn't say that to start a war between the tribes.

The 450SEL 6.9 (W116) S class was always regarded as a direct rival of the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow. It cost as much as the Rolls-Royce and was far more powerful.

So this battle is nothing new.

The Ghost is based on a reworked 7er chassis actually which would have been the basis for the CS if it reached production.
BMW and Rolls-Royce heavily separated both cars so that they can be distinguished in every aspect so that they are not recognisable in where it matters in their character , refinement and ambience.
No one has ever compared the Ghost to the 7er and whilst they might share components and switchgear. Every point has been made to distinguish both brands either in detail , exclusivity , individuality , performance or typeface.

The Ghost was a pivotal moment for Rolls-Royce. It showed that you don't need a substantial drop to downsize your range.

^ Oh God, what have I started. :D

remember though that Daimler and Maybach are intrinsically linked by history ......there almost certainly would be no Mercedes if those two had not worked together. So it is not so perverse that an S class should have a Maybach moniker.

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
