S-Class (W222/C217/A217) Mercedes-Maybach S600 Previewed

The Mercedes-Benz W222 is the sixth generation of the Mercedes Benz S-Class. Body styles: W222 (standard), V222 (long), X222 (limousine, Mercedes-Maybach), VV222 (pullman), C127 (coupé), A217 (convertible). Predecessor: S-Class (W221). Successor: S-Class (W223). Production: 2013–2020.
remember though that Daimler and Maybach are intrinsically linked by history ......there almost certainly would be no Mercedes if those two had not worked together. So it is not so perverse that an S class should have a Maybach moniker.

That's a fair point, but you're leaving out a part of that Daimler/Mercedes-Maybach history where Mercedes revived Maybach as a unique brand rather than just a nameplate. Having scrapped the individual brand, and now using the nameplate to add exclusivity and identity to Mercedes models seems a little... hmmm..... not really sure what the right word/phrase would be, ...but in short they're milking it.

Without the failed attempt at a standalone brand, using the Maybach nameplate makes beautiful sense. My wonder is, what will the average S, Bentley, Rolls, former-Maybach owner think when looking at this new Maybach S600? They are aware of previous standalone Maybach brand and how its models were at least somewhat differentiated to the Mercedes S class models. What are they going to think when seeing the Maybach name on what is essentially a slightly stretched S-class.

"Milking it"

Well that's one way of putting it, however, I'm not so cynical about it; I don't think most people will have too much trouble with it.

The previous Maybach was often (incorrectly) referred to as a "Mercedes-Maybach" anyway.

Btw Shameel, how nice it is to talk with you again, I'm slowly reconnecting with old friends here.

I like that name Zeppelin, but if ever used again, it has to be attached to a breathtaking car.

M
"Exelero" also sounds great. A remake of it based on the new S-Class Coupe would be stunning.

It seems they will reserve it until the last minute, the world premiere starts soon in Guangzhou,China.

Expected lineup to include:

S 600 MAYBACH
S 500/550 MAYBACH
S 500/550 4Matic MAYBACH
S 450 HYBRID MAYBACH
S 400 4Matic MAYBACH

I just hope Mercedes will not be stupid enough to use the 'Maybach' name on lesser models. The Maybach must be S Class or above.

Mercedes-Maybach

In November 2014, Daimler announced the revival of the Maybach name as a sub-brand of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (W222), positioned as an upscale version akin to the more sporty Mercedes-AMG sub-brand.
