SPY PHOTOS: Mercedes CLS Facelift
First restyling since lainch in 2004

DaimlerChrysler’s successful four door coupe CLS is about to get its first restyling. The photos are showing a prototype in cold weather testing. Quite visibly the car is featuring a completely new front grille in the style of its big brother CL, and also the rear end – still under cover – gets all new taillights and a new bumper.

The current CLS came on the market in August 2004, so one can expect the facelift to be scheduled for release in 2008.

CLS facelift is being considered with a fifth seat. Currently the CLS seats only 4...

Only thing I can tell that is largely different are the tailpipes which do look cool.

I can't imagine what they'll do with this car other than go from a 4 to a 3 slat grille and some minor cosmetic tweaks. I'd like to see a CLS600 though, but I don't think the V12 will fit. They could make the CLS600 like the old W124 E500, wider fenders, no AMG kit and an exclusive interior.

I have a suggestion for you.

Step 1)Walk into Brabus head office with a big bag of cash,

Step 2) Wait for a month or so you will have yourself a CLS600 midified and individualised to suit your taste.

That would put the CLS too high in the Mercedes-Benz excutive branch. It simply wasn`t created to fullfill such high rank and status.
The CLS63 fits the bill well enough as the top of the line imo.

As far as this f/l goes I think the CLS needs a deeper front spoiler and sportier grill. The nose of the currant model looks too shallow and plain imo.

Step 2) Wait for a month or so you will have yourself a CLS600 midified and individualised to suit your taste.

Or instead I take that same amount of cash that Brabus would require in addition to the donor CLS (which I would have to provide, or pay for in addition) and either put it in the bank, or get me an additional S65 for my stable (at which point, I would not even bother with the CLS to begin with). A Brabus CLS runs well into 300K territory, and it is not worth it even remotely.

I wish they would make the headlights more like two intersecting circles, ala the old c-class. I swear this mishmash just doesn't make any type of aesthetic sense. I see the same confusion in the headlights of the infinity G series, and much worse in their rearlights.

Go for the old peanut shape and you'll have a.....er an admirer, because I don't have the cake honestly.

First restyling

The current Mercedes CLS has been on the market since 2004 and is due for a facelift. Today our spyphotographers caught a glimpse of the redesigned four door coupe on the streets of Stuttgart, Germany.


The new front grille is clearly visible through the black paint and shows us two chrome bars in similar styling to the current model but with two bars less. The rear end seems to be receiving new taillights and a new bumper, but more on that when some of the covers are shed. The exhaust tips receive a minor styling change too, with a less oval shape.


We are expecting to see the facelifted Mercedes CLS as a 2008 model year.
