SLK/SLC-Class (R172) Mercedes-Benz SLK R172 (spy shots and info)

The Mercedes-Benz R172 is the third generation SLK-Class (SLC-Class) launched in 2011. It is the successor to the R171. Production: 2011–2020.
Care to explain.

Not much to explain, those pics speaks for itselves, particulary the rear, very Audish. New Z4 is one of the most beautiful Roadsters on the planet and compare to Z4 these pics are horrible.

Now that the Z4 has a hard top the SLK has little to offer in advantages over the Z4. Interior layout and space is the only advantage, other than perhaps safety.
I'm an MB guy, but the Z4 has to be the lovliest little 2 seater on the road. The styling is absolutely divine. And the drive leaves the SLK way behind.

MB better have done their homework on the next SLK. You can't just rest on the fact that yours is a hard top convertible anymore.

New Details Emerge For 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLK

Like a compact SL, the next-gen SLK will be brawnier and more masculine in its appearance than the current SLK, but it will also offer a bit more bite to back up the bark. New tidbits out today hint that the next-gen SLK may end up being one of the most interesting cars in Mercedes-Benz's lineup.

With a 300-350-horsepower twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 as a post-debut special, the SLK will potentially offer a lot of punch even in standard guise. The AMG version, however, could deliver a gobsmacking 470 horsepower from a twin-turbo 3.6-liter V-8 engine to replace the aging 6.2-liter V-8 found in the current '63' model family.

Barring the new small-displacement twin-turbo V-8, a revised version of the 5.5-liter mill, also bearing twin-turbos, could generate 422 horsepower for the next-gen SLK 55 AMG. A 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel is also a likely candidate, at least for Europe, for an entry-level SLK. The oil-burner might even see U.S. sales, but that will depend heavily on Mercedes' decisions regarding the same engine going into the C-Class.

Other major changes to the SLK could include a weight savings regime good for about 200 pounds off the car's curb weight, plus a revised interior designed around themes from the SLS AMG supercar, including a tall center stack surrounded by chrome vents.

A turbo 3.6L V8....Hmmmmmmmmm.....borrowed from McLaren? Or would that already be a Mercedes engine modified by Mahale for McLaren. I don't believe any of it, but interesting.

Just to keep this thread alive.

I have a feeling that as the R172's interior styling will be SLS-style retro , the next generation SL (R232?) will have a uber-modern one. Any opinion ?

I hate the retro interior of the SLS.

I hope for a better, a more contemporary(even futuristic) and more stylish interior for the SL.

SL will most likely get a completely different interior, but the SLK will definitely be a 50% copy paste of the SLS. :t-hands:

Yea it has that Anteater look to it. Pure Shameful to even look at it!

Yeah, that chop has a whole lot of ugly going on. Whoever did that should be ashamed of himself/herself. I'm not saying I can make a better chop, I can't, but I sure as hell wouldn't put something as ugly as that online and give people nightmares. :t-cheers:

Well thank goodness it doesn't say Huckfeldt. If it did, then I would be worried. ;)

This is like the frenzy the mags had after the BMW CS concept..
Every damn new bmw was based on it..
Now every new MB is based on the SLS..

As that was BS..
I expect this to be aswell:)
