Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG Black Series Will Boast 670 Horsepower

Why are they not building th BS on a SL63 base? Isn't that the most driver oriented model in the current SL range?

I agree. I thought from the beginning they'll build BS on SL63 base and i was astonished when i've heard it'll be based on SL65. SL63 is lighter and more agile and i think that should be a priority, but it seems they've chosen V12 instead to pump more HP...Weird imo...

:t-cheers:

I understand what you are saying, but I agree with the other that for a Black series model (which should be the most sporty of the entire range, right) they would better use the lighter model.
They might want to talk to BMW on how to get 670 BHP out of the V8 :D, no just kidding.
Serious now IMO its more important to make the car handle real good and that will be easier of there is less weight on the front axle, so unless they are going to build an ultra light V12 I would also prefer the V8, maybe even with only 600 BHP and lose about 200 pounds, this way the SL65 is not outpowered, but they get a more extreme car. Compare it to a Porsche Turbo and a GT3 (of course they also have the GT2 which then would correspond to a super black series SL).
To avoid misunderstandings this is just my humble opinion, not saying they are going to use the V8.

Really looking forward to the new mercedes (E class, CLK) that are coming out. Especially this car!

Offtopic - What engine is the SLC using, if the information is out? and how will it go against the sl65 black series?

ABC suspension has been tossed and so has the folding top. This SL has been given some other weight saving treatments. The header say this BS SL65 looses 500lbs compared to the normal SL65 AMG which stands at 4506lbs.

Quit a feat if you ask me. It`s still a little heavier than the SLR though.

It`s track performace should be quit impressive as most Black Series cars are.

This BS is a hell of a lot wider than the SLR with fatter tires which is going to help it dance better on the trac.

The upcoming SLC will be even more powerful than the SL65 Black-Series.
Rumer has it that it will get some 700hp The engine should be a Bi-Turbo V8, too earily to tell though.

The current SL (along with the Black Series) should be phased out by that time. Btw MB only plans on building 350 units of the BS SL65, thats it. Unless the demand in extremely high.

I think there is a very obvious reason why the upcoming SL Black Series is a SL65 rather than a SL63.

There is already a CLK63 Black Series. For the higher end SL Black Series, it should be faster.....faster in a straight line, and hopefully faster on a track. The SL is a bigger and heavier car than the CLK, and to be faster, you need more power than the CLK63 Black Series.

If the SL Black Series comes with the 63 engine, I find it hard to believe it will be faster than the existing CLK63 BLack Series.

^^

The SL63 AMG (the normal AMG version) is still more powerful than the CLK63 Black-Series because the SL is the King of the entire MB line. As I said, MB will not dishonor the SL range in such a mannor.

518hp vs 500hp. (SL63 AMG --CLK63 Black-Series.)

The CLK63 is the only AMG model offered. If the CLK came with a V12
the V12 version no doubt would get the Black Series treatment.

That statement would also stand if the SL63 was the only AMG SL offered,
but thats not the case.

Even if the E63 came in Black-Series form it would not be more powerful than the normal SL63AMG. This is the reason the Black-Series is reserved for the top cars.

Btw the Black-Series name had been slapped on the SLK55 which is the reason why we don`t have the SLK63. If that had not happen the SLK63 would have been here.

I think this monster will be my favorite Benz after the CLK DTM AMG...

ohh and i dont mind those rimms..

Should be ready to show in less than a week!

M

That would be evil from MB to do:D

No not really.this is two very different cars with different customers. Its not a new S-class reveal. Debuting the same day would make no harm for either of the cars.
