SL-Class (R231) [Official] Mercedes-Benz SL65 AMG (R231)

The Mercedes-Benz R231 is the sixth generation SL roadster, replacing the R230. Released in March 2012, it uses Mercedes-Benz's new 4.7 litre twin turbo V8 engine with a power output of 435 PS (320 kW; 429 hp). It was succeeded by the Mercedes-AMG R232. Production March 2011–2020. Model years: 2012–2020.
The V12s future is surely uncertain, but a 30,000 USD premium for an S65 over a Maybach S650 is truly laughable..

Nothing says a man has failed in life quite so well as a V8 badge on his Mercedes.

If you don't know, why people buy 65AMG - you don't need 65AMG.

All that 65 needs is 4Matic and it'll fly passed the 63..haha.

Incompatible with 4-matic.

The way the power delivery is, along with the antiquated Bosch engine mangement software means that even with 4-matic, the hot-vee V8 63 with the equal or even slightly less power would be quicker than the current V12. Or likely even a new V12.

The engine is based on it's NA predecessor, the 5.8L M137 and the twin-turbo 5.5L M275, so the engine is exactly 20 years old now.

I had a S65 12 years ago, and now I think MB is commiting robbery with what they charge for the current S65 & SL65. The 63s are faster at virually all speeds. V8 engine smoothness is also at an all-time high.

Back then a 65 was head-and-shoulders faster than the 5.4L V8 & and 6.2 V8, so the price was justified. Now it's a money grab for the suckers walking into a MB dealership and demand the most expensive car on the showroom floor.

In the first 22 months of ownership the 65s depreciate at the same pace as a fridge falling from the sky.

Yup, found out first hand. The biggest jaw dropper I've had was was getting trade-in estimates for my S & CL.

It's much worse now with how grossly overprice they've become. In 2007, the MSRP for the S65 was $178k (and all options included), now it's $230k with most examples pushing $250k. The S650 convertible is $335k.

Well i'm sure they can easily handle that if they're developing new V12 for the next generation flagships.

As per Old Benz the SL65 AMG will be discontinued in June 2018 to be replaced by the hybridized SL73 in the next generation.

Curious to see if the Maybach-badging and "limiting" its production will slow down the depreciation free-fall seen in prior gens. Doubt it.

If you're just stinking rich, now is the time to buy a SL65, apparently the last of it's kind.

Wow that SL65 is such a beauty, it still looks so modern. Amazing that this R230 model was first launched in 2001, it hasnt aged. The R230 SL in 55 AMG and 65 AMG are my favorite models.
