2 Series LEAK: 2022 BMW 2-Series Coupe

The BMW 2 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since the year 2014. The 2 Series was created when BMW spun-off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the BMW 1 Series into a separate series.

Really curious to see what this ends up looking like. Right now I have mixed feelings. I disliked the leaked pics, but find the proportions to be really spot on.

If the interior is like the new i4, that would be a turn-off to me as well.

??? I do not get, what you guys are talking about? There will be a G42 230i. This is a known fact, since prototype drives with the 230i have been done by media. This 230i is RWD 250hp B48 based.
So what exactly is your hope a 228ti should bring on the table, what the 230i doesn't?
A 230i would not be the same as a 228ti. The latter would be like a warm coupe/hatch with eel considered chassis modifications and slightly uprated engine.

The 128ti has been very well received thanks to the brilliant modifications below.

In a nutshell a 228ti would be a light-nosed and entertaining RWD BMW coupe at nearly half the cost of an M2 or M4.

"Overall it feels a lot like you'd expect a BMW hot hatch to feel, being agile but composed and with a good degree of throttle-adjustability. Which is a relief.

As for how it happens, there’s a combination of factors. In an effort to reduce understeer and improve turn-in, the underbody bracing found in the front of the M135i has been chucked and the degree of toe-in reduced at all four corners. The springs are also considerably stiffer (around 8%) and the compression-damping rates higher, and crucially the distribution of stiffness has changed, migrating rearwards.

Some of the personnel involved – speaking at BMW's development workshop in the village of Nürburg – explained that these measures at first resulted in a car too alert and responsive. Too ‘pointy’, frankly. Therefore the speed of the steering has been marginally reduced compared to the M135i. Without the stability of a driven rear axle, the locking ratio for the torsen differential has also fallen from 38% to 31% for the 128ti. "

Hm. I still don't get the point.
For the 1 series there even is no 130i. There is a 128ti and a 135ix. I maybe would get the point, if there would be a 128ti AND a 130i ... and tests/comparisons of both had shown, that philosophy/setup of an 128ti is different than for the 130i. Maybe (this you seem to imply) more sporty, more wild...
And then you also seem to imply, that - in case such a difference between a 128ti and a hypothetical 130i would exist - it could be transferred 1:1 to a totally different vehicle (RWD CLAR platform vs FWD FAAR platform).

I fear you have fallen for BMWs advertising with the ti letters :p
All the test, which I've read (not pre-series but the final product) against its competition (Golf GTI, Focus ST, ...) were not in favor for the BMW. Overly harsh ride, understeer as hell ... but nice decals applied...

But you all seem to be even bigger BMW fans than me, that you have such high hopes in a ti-model ;)

Hmm. I don’t know how a 228ti would fit within the 2 models. Possibly the Gran Coupe? But not with the actual 2 Coupe.
I think the ti exists because there are plans to eventually progress the M135i perhaps to a M140i? Or even biting the bullet and going f#ck it. Here is the M1.
Disguised cars testing suggests something is afoot.

In that case you might as well call the M550i, M5, M5 Comp and M5 CS redundant as they are all the same car right?

That’s one of the official pictures I have in my press release. Ain’t she gorgeous?
You say that photo is official? If so, we have to start applauding from today until July 8 when be presented, Wooww.

That's just beautiful, and grounbraking at the same time, shout out, Alfa GT Junior, shout out E30

One thing to add. I don’t like the rear. I think this could have been resolved better with proper L shaped taillights.
They have something from the 2002 incorporated, within their geometric figure, I see a certain evocation.

That’s based off a modified Mini though, while the 2er will be a proper true BMW in every sense.

not a chance any of this will happen except the 228Ti GC (which will end up as an utterly miserable POS sadly)

The M235i Gran Coupe is a decent enough car to drive if not completely overwhelming.

NOTE:
Sorry, I wrote this question and statement, from the phone it went wrong, and editing time is over.

So back to Cerium Gray trim on the M Performance version? ? When it's been ditched on the LCI X3/X4 in favor of chrome like base M - or is that a free opt-out option?

Nope. For all of those I can tell you exactly, how they differ! Because they are real.
You claim some difference between cars, that don't exist! What is the difference of your much beloved 128ti to a 130i, which doesn't exist?
You hope for a 228i G42 ... ok and how would this differ to a 230i G42, which exists?

At least the design isn't inspired by the 4-Series or iX. However. The M-winged mirror caps are unnecessary.

Not long to go until unveiling.
