January Update 2010 - BMW : The Road Ahead

645d: > 354 hp, > (the so long talked about tri-turbo I6)

That's hot. Nm number is still a secret it appears, but I would say 100 more than 640d, so around 700 Nm.

And thinking about it, damn.....the new 6er will have a diesel engine more powerful than the previous 645ci/650i :bowdown::bowdown: That's what I call progression!

367 hp and 490 Nm vs 354 hp and 650 (minimal) Nm? I don't think so my friend. Torque makes all the difference here, only 13 hp less for the diesel but like 150-200 Nm more = more powerful overall.

You said "more powerful" and that is measured in hp.

Comparing a naturally aspirated petrol with a triple turbo diesel of similar power, then of course it's going to have more torque. What exactly is your point? :t-hands:

My point is that this new I6 diesel will be stronger (better word for you, I know power is measured in hp, and technically I was wrong and you caught that again...) than either V8 in the current 6er :) No need to make an arguement out of that. It's just amazing progression and that is overlooked sometimes lately...

No. That doesn't make any sense at all.

Not "technically" Klier. "Wrong".

You said that the tri-turbo diesel (at 354hp) would be more POWERFUL than the previous 645/650. I responded by saying "more powerful than the 645, yes, but not the 650". It was a simple response to what was a simple error on your part. Maybe you weren't aware that the 650 had received a bump up to 367hp from 333hp?

So why are you being so defensive?

No need to make an arguement out of that.

You are unbelievable. Why, when you post something incorrect I respond politely and correct you, am I the one "making an argument"?

It's just amazing progression and that is overlooked sometimes lately...

I still don't see what your point is Klier. A tri-turbo diesel having more torque than a naturally aspirated petrol engine? What is so unexpected at that?

Just...lol

ONE more thing I will say about it: I am aware of every (!) BMW engine from let's say 1990 and onwards. For the rest I am not going to discuss this any further with you. I am not trying to be offensive, I just don't see the point. Ciao.

Which is why I thought your post was strange.

Klier, you made a factually incorrect post and I politely corrected you. And this is your reaction. Utterly pathetic. :usa7uh:

I shouldn't be responding to this, but whatever. The new tripple turbo I6 will be a STRONGER engine than the V8 the 645ci and 650i had. The combined hp and Nm is much more than either V8 in current 6er, and that's what I meant what I said with 'more powerful'.
I am not wrong, you're just incapable of understanding things :)

It's perfectly clear to me you're just digging a big hole for yourself. :D

My hopes are a production eDrive 1er hatchback with back seats will get to market, break the mold BMW!

To understand the importance of the 1er in F20 guise that car will launch with the highest amount of innovations ever for a BMW.

My hopes are some of that innovation goes into making the car a bit lighter than it's predecessor.

I was also hoping to see the Concept Vision Dynamics drive train also making it's way to production models, but diesel-hybrid at BMW has become all quiet all of a sudden, strange..

Edit: sorry about all the hopes in my sentences

No triple turbo but an diesel-hybrid

I suppose, the so called "triple turbo" diesel will actually be a diesel-hybrid with the 306hp diesel as a base. That also would explaine why Scott27 didn't mention the torque - that would be too much of a hint I guess...

Scott has not mentioned nothing about the tri-turbo being a hybrid engine.

Right, he said:

645d: > 354 hp, > (the so long talked about tri-turbo I6)

and in my opinion that means "it's more than a tri-turbo, with more than 354 hp"

we'll see I guess...
I don't think he used ">" as "greater than", but rather as an arrow. This means the 645d will have 354 hp and be the new triturbo.

Best regards,
south

I just don't believe in a tri-turbo because:
In the new bi-turbo diesel the smaller turbo now features variable vane technology... and why not use the same feature for the bigger turbo for more power, instead of adding a third one...
