This was an absolutely massive motorshow, with over 1500 cars shown. Some interesting debuts from Chinese and legacy car brands.

The only problem is there is still too much copying of European brands with some of the Chinese cars.

Porsche similar designs appear especially frequent. In fact, a good deal of the replication is downright shameless. Then again, what we Europeans and North Americans refer to as "copying" is perceived a bit differently in China than is the case in western societies. And as of more recently, Chinese manufacturers can tend to add considerable value as well. The tech, material and manufacturing quality can be absolutely unreal. And especially pertaining to the latter two attributes, we Germans have been going seriously backwards in more recent times.

I'd say 70%, which is huge.

Mercedes-Benz: 1:03:55
BMW: 33:55

Audi isn't listed, I think they missed it, It's interesting to watch the whole video; it gives you a snapshot of the state of industry in China and foreshadows where the world is headed.
*The comments about Mercedes and BMW clearly reflect the impression both brands make at the moment.

On the other hand, what an amazing spectacle it was to go there, the scale of the event was out of this world, truly something to behold. I'd love to go next year and explore the rest of China while I'm there.

Car show or freak show?
The shown battery technology was absolutely wild though, with 1000 kW left and right, charging to 80% in 4 minutes, etc. etc.
No competition.

The reason why the Chinese copy so much is so obvious and always has been.

Opel: "Design is the main reason for buying a car today. We have to design cars that have what it takes to become true icons."

"Same technology, unique appearance: Opel, part of the Stellantis Group, is radically redesigning the look of its models. They must be distinctly German, as a Frenchman and an Englishman would say."

(As Audi and Jaguar also said recently, it seems they have just realized it!!)

Alexander Bloch has long been my favorite German-language "go to" automotive influencer. Actually, my favorite "go to" automotive influencer PERIOD. Very likeable and immensely competent.
