R8 It's Official: Audi R8 GT Breaks Cover

Thank you Audi for making your most exciting car boring. Although the R8 has lost weight but should in reality have gained spirit, charater and spark. Scuderia is for F1 and the GT3 RS is for rawness. Audi could at least have slapped some livery on to the car because it looks plain vanilla to me -- it's not more than the sum of its parts which is why it will make zero contribution in elevating the prestige of the R8. In fact, it doesn't even look that special either. Why not leverage the company's Le Mans participation?

I'm not going to bring out the crowbar just yet because performance figures are yet to be seen. Giving how ordinary the R8 V10 has been in its performance despite the excellent usability qualities, this LP560 wannabe has quite a lot to prove.

I disagree. The weight loss is already music to my ears. Don't need livery to make it look like a faster car.

The R8 already drives beautifully and the reduction in weight will only serve to extend that. Like somebody else here said though, it better come in a manual too... Otherwise...

Oh, when I said facelift, I mean some technical update, things like new MMI software, and maybe the dual clutch gearbox when, or if the Audi engineers managed to find a way to fit it inside the car.

R8 is being already 4 years in production, so if facelift was planned it should be presented these days...
having said that, what's confirmed is the new engine - 4.2l V8 with 430 PS! it's gonna be announced within few days - maybe along minor cosmetic changes, but I doubt!

The faclift is very little cosmetic but some updates it will be.

product positioning... would've made it too close to the V10 5.2 and maybe threaten it's existence!

ps. it's not 444 but 450 PS! 444 is BHP (british measurement)! 430 is related to the German PS (Pferdestärke = horse strength), same as 450... cut few digits down and you'll get your bhp for 430.. probably around 424!

1PS=0.98632 hp(bhp)
Throughout Europe and rest of the world PS is adopted as metric HP (closely related to the kW -> 1 PS = 75 kilopond-meters per second ~ 0.7355 kW) and such as a standard unit! Only Britain, plus some former colonies of the Empire kept old mechanical measurement and designate it as BHP (break horse power).

cars from europe are rated in metric hp (PS) in US, not bhp - so it's going to be 450hp(ps) for him as well if he was in US...

Maybe just in your eyes this car is one of the best designed car but for somebody lik me it ins´t . The S5 is looking better then this but the RS5 is for me again ugly. Maybe you like big chicks

Most definitely, arguably better in fact.

Is it worth almost twice as much as the M3GTS and thus twice as good?
No. The simple answer is that extra performance costs increasingly greater the closer you get to the limit, but it's definitely a superior car to the M3GTS. Sadly only the extremely rich will ever experience the difference and ever then very few will be gifted enough with the driving skills to notice.

P.S.
A final note. How many here thought that Audi would abandon quattro with this it's most focused track special?

Its perfection on the highest level. The designers should win some kind of everlasting-award. Look at that thing god damnit! Its impossible to not think this car is beautiful. Look at it!!! Look at that power...those lines... Ahhh...god damn this is SEX! And just imagining 10 years ago that an Audi would have a SUPERCAR (yeah, it is a supercar. those who deny that can start thinking once again) that does 0-100 in 3,6 seconds and has 560hp and 15/85 quattro system....
