Is this the iPhone 5? UPDATE: Apple introduces iPhone 4S

hmmm, it is between 4S (I have an old ass 3S now) and Kindle fire for my gadget fix for this winter. If it was the 5, would have made my decision much easier.

Hard especially considering that they are both at the same price point of $199 (basic 4s).

The cool thing about the new iPhone is the camera and 1080p video as well as the speed boost. The only thing that would make you win over the iPhone 4s is if you are feeling the new assistant feature.

i just don't get how a phone maker can still get away with keeping an identical design for 2 years nowadays. arguably, the screen size is not big enough, the shape isn't 100% convenient (3 was better).

That's nothing new. Apple stock always drops during announcement. It's insignificant.

What is the problem? This is normal fluctuation especially every single time Apple has released an iPhone. Let me know when it drops 25% and we'll talk. Other than that, a fluctuation of up to 9% is not a big of a deal especially when a new product is released. The iPad dropped the stock too. People are just cashing in.

iPad looked pretty useless when it first came out, turned out good, it was an uncertainty but i guess there is less uncertainty this time, it's simple that they took a year to achieve this phone. I have no problem with the hardware apart from the relatively small screen but at least it needs a bigger screen and some kind of better exterior design. A year isn't enough to do it? So they need another year to design a proper casing, and another year to improve the bits and pieces inside?

Apple can't just design a 4inch screen and be done. They price out things in large quantities. I don't know, but perhaps they are shooting for a 4inch screen that has retina display, which would be really costly per year. Considering there have been issues with Samsung and LG with respect to litigation and the iPad 2 screens respectively, Apple may be taking its time or the screens are just not available yet. While 4inch screens are on countless phone, a retina display like that of Apple's is not.

Certain things take time, especially when you are trying to price it at a certain point. I think Apple would want an iPhone 5 type of phone to be price with the current iPhone 4s or perhaps they will do away with the 16gb model and more the 32gd and 64gb down. That would make the most sense right now.

So, if you take the aforementioned into consideration, the high cost of developing a retina display 4inch screen alongside purchasing more and more flash memory to price a phone at $199 (with contract) takes time.

I think the delays and wait was waay long for a cam/processor upgrade.. inside the same damn shell..




And the worst damn thing is that i cant find ANY other phone than a iphone that will fit my needs ( aviation apps)..plus the competition looks like CRAP!!!

Well, I think the reasoning behind the delay was more than just upgrading the internals. It had to do with the assistant feature as well as ios5 and iCloud.

Stock decline should not be a worry to the long term investor. Company's fundamentals have never been better. The decline is the market having a knee-jerk reaction, which it always has. Apple is one of only a handful of stocks I trade, and while it would have made for an interesting swing-trade, I am long, long-term.

I also wanted to see a 5 today, but my mind was telling me that there was no reason for Apple to break out a new design. Am I the only one that finds iP4 a great-looking phone? With the specs and performance of the 4s, it is nothing to sneeze at. Due respect to screen size and 4g, but Apple still represents in the industry. Very interesting stats thrown in by Schiller, putting the iPhone up/download performance right up there with the so-called 4G competition.

This was noted a few days ago, actually, which leads me to believe that, aside from the negativity in the markets now with economic concerns around the world, something else is pulling this stock down. Either way, I am betting that today Apple will not release an iPhone 5 and instead only an iPhone 4s.

It makes sense since they have developed the new assistant feature, iCloud, and an enhanced GPS system for the phone. I think the iPhone 5 that we were all waiting for is in the works. A few rumors just popped up indicating that today the iPhone 4s will be released with the aforementioned features and that the iPhone 5 mock-up we have all been seeing is a prototype that is still in the works. So, perhaps Apple will in fact release an iPhone 5 but not just today. Maybe in the first quarter of 2012 or maybe in June of 2012.

Sorry guys, but it just seems impossible at this moment for Apple to introduce a 4 inch screen especially considering that NO PARTS WHATSOEVER FOR THIS PHONE WERE EVER LEAKED. Nor were any screen pictures taken nor were any aluminum back sides seen. All of the parts that we have seen have been for the 4s.

Bought 10 AAPL at $401 a few days back, and I quadrupled my position at $371. We will see where it goes from there. I do not trade equities usually. but have drank the cool-aid on this iPhone whirlwind, and I expect moves, if only momentary.

Yeah, the AAPL kool-aid sucks us all in. I actually got a bunch of shares at $331, and had a great run up until they hit $400 for the first time. This was in early August when the Debt-Ceiling crap was going on, so it started plummeting and I got out at $392. Since then, with all the Market turmoil, I'd wiped out all the gains I made on that AAPL run. Oh well. This is why I don't play the Market too much as the moment.

Apple will go back up, so keep those Shares. The Traders-run was when they jumped to $420 a few weeks ago, based on iPhone buzz.... oddly enough, that buzz left with that run.

I wasn't expecting a redesigned iPhone 5 anymore but I was still secretly hoping Apple would surprise me. There's still a possibility Apple will introduce the iPhone 5 earlier than June/July 2012. The bulky and less ergonomic shape of the iPhone 4 is the reason why I haven't even considered to buy one. I have a 4th generation iPod Touch and I much prefer its feel in hand. Well, at least I'll get the iOS 5.

BTW As usual Apple didn't disclose amount of RAM inside (or the CPU clock rate). Some sources say it has the same 512 MB while others claim it has been upgraded to 1 GB.

Also, I think, if people really sit down and think about it, not releasing an iPhone 5 may be a good move. I am sure Apple thought about and evaluated the situation. Granted, people are pissed and upset but when they do actually unveil the phone it will be a show-stopper and people will then be expecting it. This time around we were all worried an iPhone 4 with new internals would show up but we can definitely expect a new redesign next year.

The iPhone is like a German car in a world of Japanese/American cars. The others need to keep switching quickly to newer designs to stay competitive, but in order for Apple to hold a superiority and dignity over them, they need to design something that is built to be "timeless" (funny to use that term on phones.... Especially being someone like me who usually doesn't pay anything for a phone, therefore I just get whatever cheap freebie is thrown at me when I'm eligible for upgrades), and let it carry out a nice and full life-cycle. Then when their redesign comes out, it will be all the more epic, special, and rare.

BTW, anybody who watched or followed the presentation (I didn't). Did it seem like some energy, some of that Apple "Magic" was gone without Steve Jobs presenting? Did it have the same aura with Cook at the helm?

Tim is at the helm now, not Steve. So, there are differences in the way they will do the presentations. So, there is that little magic that is gone. I am glad, though, that Tim will not try to be like Steve and in a way they have carried on a god succession plan. Back in the day Steve would introduce everything before he started transitioning to the individuals in charge of each new feature.

Not necessarily. Siri will run on the 3SG, iPad 1 and iPad 2 as well. Like I mentioned previously, the processing power for Siri is handled by servers in the cloud.

Also, previous reports about Siri before today mentioned excessive use of ram in order to function at the speed it does while it doubles-up going into the internet and its resources.

Also Siri is not part of iOS 5. Siri will therefore not function on neither iPad.
