Kudos to Rimac for posting a lap that, honestly, doesn't make their car look too great.

I thought that they might get around 6:50 with Cup 2 Rs, but instead it's 7:05 - which is actually the exact time I predicted for the car using PS4Ss. Go figure.

The weight is really noticeable and at times the car doesn't look super stable. The acceleration is, of course, immense, but the cornering speeds are a disaster. It corners about as fast as a MB GT63s, an M3 Comp Touring, or a Honda Civic Type R (all three on Cup 2s only) :ROFLMAO:. So yeah, no torque vectoring miracles here. I guess it's kinda impressive for a 2300kg car to get around in 7:05 in the first place, but watching the car constantly slowing for corners that a Porsche GT product would take flat out was pretty painful.

The positives, I guess, are that the battery actually lasted (as in, was able to supply full power) the whole lap - which is a first for an EV (the ID.R included).

^Well I'd agree under 7 minutes is what most were thinking or estimating.

We'll see they can go back but let's not forget they've done in ONE year the Holy Trinity. Top Speed, Acceleration and Nurburgring Records.

Some haven't done that in decades.

This car is incredible. Obviously Pininfarina is heavily based on it so I don't really differentiate between them in performance. Only the Lotus Evija can possibly outstrip it. The McMurtry is years off. So for EV that's it, for now!

I'm not sure how the hybrids Zenvo and Bugatti will cope, but then it's not apples to apples anyway. Interesting times.

Honestly surprised they actually went to shout this time.

It's f'ing incredibly slow for a 2000 hp car, LMAO. 15 seconds faster than an M4 CSL with 4 times as much power.

Please stop Mate. You are embarrassing yourself and everybody else.

I mean, that what makes it even more sad and pathetic. I would surely have imagined crazy speeds at full power and then half a lap with like no power. But full power all the time means these EV cars have decades to go to be competite with ICE in any meaningful way.

Gosh, I dislike this fake brand a lot. Maybe that's it. What a f'ing JOKE.

I've seen a lot of pointless crap on the internet and this is way up there in the pantheon of meaningless human endeavour.
But ok, I guess this is one of those "coz we can" achievements.

And for those naysayers claiming that RImac was going backwards, well then - ha - joke's on you!

:shifty:

You ain't seen it all until you have watched a tiktok video of how long time it took a guy to drink all the water in a glass.....using chop sticks. One drop at a time.

Back to science: would the gearbox in an ice blow up if you reversed at top speed for 30 seconds?

Well, the reverse on most cars is only geared to max out at like 30-60mph. But, if you geared it to max out at x km/h to be drag limited instead, there would be no problems. There is no reason for the gearbox to blow up.

Always going forwards 'cause we can't find reverse.

No. The reverse gear is straight cut (thus the whining sound it makes) and stronger, since it usually has a higher ratio than 1st forward gear.

Other than that, I've tried many stupid things with my old Clio back in my undergraduate years, and if the Clio could survive this, then everything can. Mind you, that the first gen Clio was made out of wet paper napkins. And yes, I did spend quite some time going full throttle in reverse, when I tried to master the J-turn maneuver.

:D
