Z Series [Hot!] New 2019 BMW Z4 M40i Images Leaked

The BMW Z models are a line of roadsters manufactured by German automaker BMW. The Z stands for Zukunft (German for future), and has been produced in four different series with six generations consisting of roadster, coupé, sports car, and concept variants. The introduction of the M Coupé and M Roadster in the Z3 line marked the first of the Z series to have a high-performance BMW M variant. The first generation Z4 also continued to offer M Coupé and M Roadster variants. The current Z4 (G29) uses BMW's (B58B30) inline-six, its platform is the basis for the current Toyota Supra.

Don't worry, I am going to look on Google if you don't know, but it's 10.2" right now correct?

I don't understand why it's not 12.3" from the get go like what the closest competition [MB] has had for years already.

12.3" should be the sweet spot for this new bezel shape.

It's 12.3" not 10.2". And there's enough space in the "placeholder" for an even a bit bigger (wider but not taller) one in the next MYs.

Incorrect. It's 12.3" for the Live Cockpit instrument cluster and 10.2" for the central screen we are talking about.

Rear is great
Side profile is weird
Front looks like a retarded rhino
Interior is interesting f finally something new from bmw. I like the bezel less design of the I drive screen.
Even though there is a shit load of dead space.

Don't look like central multimedia screen is that much smaller than instrument cluster screen...
(two square shape are the same size)

From the official BMW 8er press release:

Standard equipment includes new BMW Operating System 7.0 display and control concept. BMW Live Cockpit Professional including fully digital instrument cluster and 10.25-inch Control Display with consistent, modern graphics.

Surely the Z4 doesn't suddenly come with a bigger center screen? So if they really are the same, the Live Cockpit probably is 10.2" as well.

I guess we will know for sure in few days. But, 8 series central screen has different design. So, maybe central screen in 8 series is smaller than 3,z4, x5, etc.
Those drawings are not much validate for sure, but, if this can tell something, than central screen in the 8 is smaller...

Samsung, LG, Sony...they can probably all make screens that match the bezel

This makes a lot of sense and is probably right. Slightly awkward though....

I would love to see that. But for what I've seen thus far in other cars, this is still my favorite approach. If possible, maybe making the boarding shiny black plastic translucent?

I think one of the biggest problems of seeing the more advanced solution is that once a solution is frozen after passing internal specs and federal regulations, that solution becomes outdated. I wonder how much of that comes into play. I'll defer to our resident OEM member, @Busty, or anybody more knowledgeable than me.

Sometimes I really wonder what you are talking about....this is simply false info, take a look at the E65 7er yourself.

If you find the new Z4 disjointed but keep on going how good the new GLE looks, I think we are too far apart to even start a discussion
I understand that you mean and maybe I should have explained better about the E65 its screen was integrated with the dash under the same type of hood as the instruments, this screen on the Z4 looks like it is stuck on the dash and then glued to the side of the instrument cluster. I do otherwise like the interior of the Z4 very much, the airvents and HVAC display looks cool and also the new look instruments are a refreshing change although for dye hard BMW fan and drivers this is a big departure design wise compared to the older BMW instruments as they no longer round and dont have the signature BMW red glow background lighting

Might be cool. What would also be cool and premium and fitting in a high end car:

Maybe a bit expensive for mass production in a car. But the future look bright in this respect, because in a decade or two, the entire windshield will be augmented reality and will basically be a giant screen.
And by that time the wallpaper in your house is intelligent, but that’s all for tomorrow.

What you call bright I find effing depressing.

While this might seem ideal, I think the driver will have problem seeing all this information across a wider area, and I think the steering wheel will block the view of a small section of the screen.

Well, it will be cool every visit to your toilet will be a doctor's appointment because the toilet will be intelligent and will know you will get cancer in 20 years just by looking at your piss and shit.

I bet the skeptics will think the results are full of shit!

I hope it will not do also the job of the dentist from the available opening.

Translucent screens: have been under investigation for years. Afaik, the passenger screen in the VFL (and/or the i8 roadster concept?) had been conceptualized like that. Maybe @SCOTT27 or @EnI know better ...

'Outdatedness': This is a big issue, indeed. Of course, designers and engineers are trying to anticipate trends that might be ahead of the times upon release and age better but, especially when it comes to digital technologies, the OEMs are not exactly forerunners. Quite the opposite actually. Reasons for this are numerous, incl. long lifecycles, safety regulations, etc.

Dude, this is already out of date.. my bartender can tell me I'm going to get cancer just by looking at my bar tab!

I was referring to the bezels rather than the screen but eventually that'd be nice too.

I was referring to the rampant addition of screens, screens, and more screens in the car, in the office, in the house, every-fricking-where. And while I am keenly aware that's just how it goes, I still can't help lament of so many bright things that vy for out attention and, how when it breaks, it's one more expensive thing that needs to be replaced. And unfortunately, it becomes necessity because it becomes a problem if you can't read how fast you're going or how much gas you have in the tank. With regards to "progress" being made, I feel conflicted these days. On one hand I do love how these screens convey information the the driver, on the other hand, it's another expensive point of failure.

And regarding the toilet of the future... I know it's said in somewhat of a jest, but let's see how many false-positives are sent to physicians.

Anyway, I am grumpy these days.
