Z Series [Hot!] New 2019 BMW Z4 M40i Images Leaked

The BMW Z models are a line of roadsters manufactured by German automaker BMW. The Z stands for Zukunft (German for future), and has been produced in four different series with six generations consisting of roadster, coupé, sports car, and concept variants. The introduction of the M Coupé and M Roadster in the Z3 line marked the first of the Z series to have a high-performance BMW M variant. The first generation Z4 also continued to offer M Coupé and M Roadster variants. The current Z4 (G29) uses BMW's (B58B30) inline-six, its platform is the basis for the current Toyota Supra.

I imagine from the driver's seat you own't see much of that inner bezel empty space because of the steering wheel, but I agree, they could have done a little something there... like maybe a few horizontal lines with a Z4 logo in there for nice detailing.

Good point, I hadn't thought about the steering wheel being exactly in that line of sight.
And the Z4 logo is a nice idea too. You're on a roll buddy :D

I think we're being shown the smaller, standard screen? Looks to me like the real estate is there for the bigger, optional extra display.

I very much doubt a full M40i would come with anything but the big screen in any market. And even then, they wouldn't put the small screen in those official launch photos.

Because the other one was posted three and a half years earlier, and it's too early for the official thread.

The front has some serious issues sadly. It's quite handsome for the rest and the interior in particular is lovely.....which is nice because the G20 3er will be similar.

I personally think Van Hooydonck is a disaster who lacks any kind of bold vision. Bring back Bangle please. It is time.

BANGLE BANGLE BANGLE! Yeah, that would be peachy to have him back, I've gotten excited about few BMWs since his era.

No matter how good the interior is, I am sad with the fact that cost cutting means by the time the whole line up has this generation of interior, the roadster's interior is not unique as one of a kind.

Remember the E85 interior? That should be an interior of a roadster. It's a classic interior by now, almost as classic as a Z8's interior (google red Z8 interior). Much more timeless than E89 and especially this. This would look too similar to a new 2er coupe/grancoupe..

Maybe the photos don't do it justice? This doesn't look like a $60K roadster to me.

Nope. Looks quite generic.

Driving it ... A memory refresh.

Agreed, not sure if this is the new trend in BMW, first we had this large gap trapezoid shape infotainment from the 8-series, now this? What do we do with that large blank space? Maybe place holder for devices with suction cups?

The screen looked better when it was on it's own on the top of the center console.

BMW E65 7 series brings out a screen in the center console that is joined to the instrument cluster and looked well intergrated in the dash. Then they bring out a separate screen on top of the dash in the F30 that looks really elegant and smart and totally unique to other cars.

This new integration with the instrument cluster looks disjointed and not an elegant and properly functional design with the wanted triangualar space around the bezel. If they had some of the metal strips from the vents surrounding the screen maybe it would have looked better

Its enough said when the Toyota version creates more buzz and anticipation amid aficionados than the BMW

Yeah, as @shonguiz points out, the Supra has achieved a cult following over the last 30-odd years. I don't think the Z4 was ever going to compete on the anticipation front.

Having said that, it's for this reason I find the Supra the biggest let down of the two... it has iconic shoes to fill, and IMHO, it's failed - at least from an aesthetic point of view.

Not really, a supra has more history and a bigger fan base than the z4

BMW made roadsters before Toyota even existed, so no. Bigger fanbase sure. But that's not hard considering how BMW has treated the Z fans and Z cars for the last two decades. They would have had much more fans if they had a real M version for the last two models.

No E89 Z4M really was a disappointment, especially given they went GT3 racing with it. The best thing BMW has done with it's Z lineup in the last two decades was the Z8, I personally find the lower range Z's (i.e. Z3 & Z4) relatively m'eh... whereas the Z8 is possibly one of the best looking BMW's ever made.

Sometimes I really wonder what you are talking about....this is simply false info, take a look at the E65 7er yourself.

If you find the new Z4 disjointed but keep on going how good the new GLE looks, I think we are too far apart to even start a discussion.

Well the GT3 only looks like a Z4, but that's about it. The E89 was probably to soft for a proper M variant.
The E85 however was fantastic, sporty and almost hardcore in the standard 3.0 version. An M version would have been brilliant.

Central display consoles or "placeholders" are bigger due to future upgrade to bigger displays in the following MYs - which will be done without any dash redesigns or any other dash change whatsoever.

Btw, it perhaps looks a bit weird in the pics due to lighting but it looks fine IRL - it's all BlackPanel with glass shield. Even with the display turned on.

Don't worry, I am going to look on Google if you don't know, but it's 10.2" right now correct?

I don't understand why it's not 12.3" from the get go like what the closest competition [MB] has had for years already.

12.3" should be the sweet spot for this new bezel shape.

Edit, not bezel shape but obviously the size of LCD screen inside the bezel...
