GLC [Hot!] 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC 2nd Generation - Early reveal!

The Mercedes-Benz GLC is a compact luxury crossover SUV introduced in 2015 for the 2016 model year that replaced the GLK-Class. According to Mercedes-Benz, it is the SUV equivalent to the C-Class.
WLTP requirements to test almost every possible spec combination has forced manufacturers to bundle more options into packages.

Furthermore EU requirements for collision warning and rearview camera to be standard has pushed up base price of cars. Speed limiters result in a price bump as it would require fitting GPS or cameras for reading speed signs.....or both.
Yes I know. What I meant (I'll give this as an example) was that if I want air suspension (around 3700 euro) then I have to buy the AMG styling package for around €5000. And I don't like the AMG styling package and prefer the Avantgarde. There are many more such idiotic dependencies.

Yeah. Mercedes tend to have odd and very expensive packages in some markets.

The prices have risen significantly between but the standard equipment has been significantly increased.
If you compare the GLC 200 4matic of the X253 series (old) with the new X254 series (new), there are numerous technical changes as well as a greatly increased standard equipment for Mercedes standards.

Vehicles with higher equipment bring more returns. Due to the semiconductor shortage, Mercedes probably does not want to sell "naked" vehicles with lower returns.

Thus, the GLC 200 4matic 9,490 EUR increases in price compared to the old series. However, numerous extras are standard, so that the price increase is reduced to 2,303 EUR. For buyers who would not have chosen this additional standard equipment, however, it will actually be much more expensive.

The new packages can then drive the vehicle even further in price. For example, if you want a head-up display, you have to buy the Premium-Plus package based on AMG Line for just over 10,000 EUR.

In terms of technology, there have been some changes that are better. For example, the new GLC 200 4matic features the 2nd generation ISG, which is located between the engine and transmission. The old series still had a belt starter generator. It was only active up to about 2,500 rpm.

Nevertheless, consumption has not improved. But this is actually no wonder with the higher weight. The new GLC increases by 125 kg. This has already been observed in the new C-Class. Mercedes has retrofitted the new vehicles and reduced the proportion of aluminium. As a result, the vehicle becomes heavier and is less tightened by the EU in terms of CO2 fleet consumption than a petrol engine with a lower weight. This is curious. But also the improved NVH behavior and the increased crash requirements are not conducive to low weight.

Can you explain me how this works? Cars should be lighter IMO...

This article is from JESMB and maybe their own wording and opinions. I agree with you, the manufacturers should aim to try and keep weight consistent or reduce vehicles weights. As a result of extra 125kg of weight the new GLC200 is not more efficient than the previous model (it uses more fuel 7.3l/100km vs 7.0l/100km), which seems very odd and a backwards approach from Mercedes Benz. Normally fuel consumption gets reduced between model generations.

What makes the price rise even greater is the fact that discounts are non-existent while 3-4 years ago you could easily get 10-15% a new GLC.

Available to order now: two plug-in hybrids as well as another diesel version of the popular SUV

"More electric than ever": the new Mercedes‑Benz GLC is available exclusively as a hybrid. Now two plug-in hybrid models complete the range of the brand's successful SUV family: the GLC 300 e 4MATIC (combined fuel consumption, weighted (WLTP): 0.6‑0.5 l/100 km, combined CO₂ emissions, weighted (WLTP): 15‑12 g/km, combined electric energy consumption, weighted (WLTP): 22.5‑20.4 kWh/100 km) from 71,471.40 euros[1] and the GLC 400 e 4MATIC (combined fuel consumption, weighted (WLTP): 0.6‑0.5 l/100 km, combined CO₂ emissions, weighted (WLTP): 15‑12 g/km, combined electric energy consumption, weighted (WLTP): 22.5‑20.4 kWh/100 km) from 74,922.40 euros1. In December 2022, the GLC 300 d 4MATIC (combined fuel consumption (WLTP): 6.2‑5.6 l/100 km, combined CO₂ emissions (WLTP): 163‑146 g/km) from 70,680.05 euros1, and thus another mild hybrid, will follow. Three mild hybrids have already been available to order from authorised sales partners and online since July 2022, starting at 57,631.70 euros1. The new models keep on coming at a brisk pace: spring 2023 will see the market launch of the third plug-in hybrid model, the GLC 300 de 4MATIC (combined fuel consumption, weighted (WLTP): 0.5‑0.4 l/100 km, combined CO₂ emissions, weighted (WLTP): 14‑10 g/km; combined electric energy consumption, weighted (WLTP): 22.9‑20.5 kWh/100 km).

GLC 400e is a sweet spot Mercedes. Decent acceleration at 5.6sec to 100km but is also a hybrid with up to 62 mile electric only range.

Does anyone know the top speed for EV mode?

Top speed in EV Mode is capped to 140 km/h, roughly 87 mph.

It's funny how they went back to the 1st generation GLC rear light graphics on this model. Thankfully they realized the current GLC, GLE and GLS rear light graphics are failures.
