BMW M3 Concept at Geneva - 420HP and DSG-style transmission


BMW will unveil its next-generation M3 in concept form at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, just as it did with the M5 sedan months before that car went on sale. Like the original M5 concept, this latest M3 version will be virtually identical to the production model and we now have more details about the car’s final specifications.

Powering the coupe will be an all-new 4.0L V8 unit developing 420hp and it’s expected BMW will also be showing a new dual-clutch DSG style transmission to help put power down to the road. Performance should be even better than its Audi RS4 rival thanks to its lighter rear-wheel-drive configuration. To further shed weight, it’s rumoured that BMW might even utilize carbon-fiber for some of the body panels.

BMW will have a tough fight on its hands, especially as it’s now competing with the RS4, Lexus IS-F, and the yet-to-be-released C63 AMG.

The recently revised 1-series hatch, including the new three-door model, as well as the facelifted 5-series sedan and Touring will also be appearing at the Geneva show.

It seem like BMW mean big business with the new M3. I have a feeling it will have a big impact on the sports car scene. Audi should be worried for their 420hp R8.

They should look up the word dynamic-it means changing. For instance a dynamic character in a novel is one who undergoes a change. "changing without compromise" what the hell does that mean? Get a clue, BMW!

BMW is still about engineering in the first place.

So the term "Dynamics" should be understand in a way that is used in physics, where dynamics is a branch of mechanics that deals with the effects of forces on the motion of objects. Therefore BMW are using in various occasions - eg. "EfficientDynamics" or "M Dynamics".




PS: Although I think in that particular case term "dynamism" would be a much better choice. Scottie, improve your English.

Still Lame. and they still misuse it. Its the most common word BMW uses in advirtising-yet it means absolutely nothing to the average consumer. But its not just that-its the fact that i have to drive through LA and see these lame billboards every where I go...

I can barely openly admit Im a BMW fan with these things....

What will American customers do when they'll be forced to scale down their HP appetites due ecological reasons (fuel consumption / millage, gas emissions)???

And - especially in CA - that can happen quite soon.

C'mon - I'm a BMW fan but - who really needs 300+ or even 400+ HP vehicle with a horrible millage anyway? Especially for driving downtown or commuting from A to B via highways with strict speed limits. OK, makes a bit more sense in Germany where are no speed limits on Autobahns.

But still ... In Europe even the big 3G's bestsellers are either low-end engine models or diesel models - in both casees millage is about 40 - 50mpg (in same cases even more).

Your right, no one does. perhaps gas mileage is a new type of performance.


But its not the idea that BMW is advirtising HP, its how they are. Its just so lame and gay, for lack of a better word.
