Hot! Diesel ban approved for German cities to cut pollution

Yes, EU limit for Offices is indeed 60 microgram/m3 NO2. If you’re working place is in the industry, 950 microgram is allowed. It’s cabaret... but of the sad kind.

Expect contingencies to ensure Mufti is removed as soon as possible?

...in hopes that AKK is more than a mere lapdog, Spahn actually sports "a pair", the CDU Wirtschaftsrat shows more bite than bark and the Bavarian state elections in October and all that leads up to them put a massive hurt on Muftis' ass.

An OT question but how much addictional electricity a country would need if all the cars become electrified ? 20-40% ?

I wish Mutti-Merkel retires ASAP. She is completely exhaustes. I see a lot of similarities in the Kohl and Merkel era. Kohl's legacy was a pure disaster. As @Jimmy has mentioned. Spahn is a Beißer. The sort of guy we need here. Or someone from bavaria. Sadly I can not vote for the CSU :((

I wouldn't mind a termination of the parliamentary CDU/CSU alliance (Kündigung der Fraktionsgemeinschaft). This temporarily occurred just over 40 years ago but was reversed following Franz-Josef Strauss' general election defeat in 1980. The current political environment being what it is in Germany, I reckon that the CSU would have a far better chance por si solo of asserting itself as a political force on a federal level. Far better prospects than over 40 years ago in any event.

^Did you know that the EU permits roughly 50% more NOx in offices? Reason: Kids and old people spent more time at mainroads rather than in offices. On top of that, the NOx limit isn't fact based. It's made by politicans in Brussels. Hilarious.
That doesn't surprise me.

Apparently Helmut Kohl was her mentor.

Apparently Helmut Kohl was her mentor.

Yes, he was. Angela Merkel was "his girl" (Sein Mädchen).

I actually found Helmut Kohl to be a rather good chancellor in general throughout most of his first 9 years in office. The last 7 years, however, were far less than remarkable. And frankly, I was relieved when Gerhard Schröder succeeded him.

I would very much support term limits.

^ That I would support too.
Helmut Kohl was one of the architects of the reunion of BRD and DDR.
Gerhard Schröder has initiated economical growth with his Agenda 2010.
Angela Merkel has done absolutely nothing for Germany. I’d say on the contrary.
End of rant and political remarks.

The bigger problem is billions that would be needed to upgrade both commercial and domestic circuits. Most homes today can't even today's fast chargers. Domestic 8-15min fast charging is a pipe dream right now and will not be economically feasible in the decade or so.

In my country we have a saying:" It's easier to pee when you have a long d!ck". Or with other words: Governing Germany is like driving a Porsche, even if you can not drive, nobody will notice it because you still would be faster than the others.

That is like arguing horses will be still used in farms at the turn of last century.

Winner.

ICE is on it's way out. 2021 is too soon, but by 2030 they will be gone. Bye bye, game over.

It’s a political discussion, not a scientific one. And the EU set limits are, at best, highly arbitrary.

What?
Diesels are an absolute scientific disaster. Nothing political about that. The political part is that companies keep being allowed to make them.

It’s a political discussion,

It definitely is and politics is all about appearance. The timing to kick diesel in the teeth is perfect as the VW scandal has already dragged diesel through the mud.

The car manufacturers are probably scratching their heads over this knee-jerk actions by government.

Hybrids are not the answer as battery technology is still far from where it needs to be. Many hybrids have a 40 mile range is in real-life is 80% if you a lucky.

Should the weather be close t freezing temperatures the car will start using the ICE or the electric only range and performance is reduced by 60%.

It is political. Everything about the Auto industry the world over is political as well as conspiracy theory.
Even made more from a comment of a friend who suggests the time has come for the EU to throw its baby from the pram so to speak. Some of the best and competent cars today are diesels. And the roll on effect from diesel gate has got many suspicious and especially vicious if you look at the rhetoric from Green,anti-facist and anti-capitalist groups.

The German Auto industry is in the firing line because of VWs discovered schadenfreude and the "cartel" paranoia that has developed
that they are all involved and seek to destroy the environment from the Quandts secret facility underneath a volcano in an island in the Polynesia sea. Which is the madness they have risen to.

But you have to look at German industries and their reluctance to invest in mainland Europe and invest in Eastern Europe. Yes where these countries have told the EU where to go in regards to their open borders madness.

A new Mercedes-Benz engine facility in Poland and BMWs research & development facility in also Eastern Europe with VW expansion to their plant in Slovakia.
But do not forget other industries that are preparing to invest there also. When you look at them individually all these statements what do they have in common? One word "Future"

Why do they not see a future in Germany or any other mainland EU country?
Of course we cannot deny salaries are a stumbling issue but the government lays out many concessions to ensure investment.
And Germany needs that investment as they have to find jobs for those
That want to work as well as sustainable to the country once the British leave the EU. Once they leave it's Germany carrying the can for everything.

Expect a dozen more cities to add similar bans before the end of the year.

Rome to ban diesel cars from city centre by 2024

Rome, one of Europe’s most traffic-clogged cities and home to thousands of ancient outdoor monuments threatened by pollution, plans to ban diesel cars from the centre by 2024, its mayor has said.

Virginia Raggi announced the decision on her Facebook page on Tuesday, saying: “If we want to intervene seriously, we have to have the courage to adopt strong measures”.

Her comments followed a court ruling in Germany that cities there can ban the most heavily polluting diesel cars from their streets.

About two-thirds of the 1.8m new cars sold in Italy last year were diesel, according to industry figures.

Rome has no major industries, so nearly all of the air pollution in the Italian capital is caused by motor vehicles.

The city often tries to ban older, more polluting vehicles from roads on days pollution reaches critical levels.

It has also tried to reduce pollution by allowing only cars whose number plates end in either odd or even numbers to circulate on alternate days.

But both regulations are widely flouted and lightly enforced by traffic police. To skirt the alternate days regulation, many families buy a used car with a different numberplate.

Apart from health issues, pollution from combustion engines causes severe damage to Rome’s many ancient outdoor monuments.

According to a study last year by a branch of the culture ministry, 3,600 stone monuments and 60 bronze sculptures risk serious deterioration because of air pollution.

Ahead of celebrations marking the start of the new millennium in 2000, the darkened facade of St Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican was cleaned as part of a project that lasted several years, but fresh signs of pollution-related stains are visible again.

Before the German court’s ruling on Tuesday, officials in highly industrialised Milan, in northern Italy, had already announced plans to make the city diesel-free by 2030.
