Vs Car and Driver: A8 vs 750i, vs S550 vs LS460 vs XJ8 Super V8

Seriosly, I fail to see it. BMw nut or not. S-class may have better ergonomics but Im talking about the layout/design and S-class is no special compared to the rest.

i feel the same way that the s class interior is nothing special, and that is coming from an audi fan not someone biased toward one of those two brands.

I'm not sure if that's good for Audi or bad for Mercedes!

Both :D

Exterior
1. Audi A8
2. Lexus LS460

4. Mercedes-Benz S550
5. BMW 750i

Interior Design

2. Jaguar XJ8
3. Lexus LS460
4. MB S550
5. BMW 750i

I just took a 20 hour, 1k mile road trip in the 750i with my family...Uhhhm. I figured out I-drive out completely in roughly10 minutes, which includes vehicle settings, GPS, Radio tuning, climate etc. It may be difficult to go from one car to another and relearn differnent settings but i find the 7's I-drive to be handy and easily adjusted-however i am young and i do like electronics.

We were steadily cruising at 100 mph on somehwat bumpy desert roads. The car has a hell of alot of torque at high speeds, its pretty impressive. We averaged 24 mpg as well.. It really is a good car. It may not be as good as the S550 but i would doubt that the A8 would match it in driving dynamics and even ergonomics....

My ratings. :t-cheers:

Interior design u put 750i so far away from the the S yet everybody says they copied it.
And then u accuse J_m of biased reasoning.

For exterior there is no dought LS needs to be on the bottom.
For interior I had a hard time between the 750 and A8
but there is no dought XJ8 is last.

This is how I would rate them. On these two aspects as least, the A8 does the best for me.

As Wimmer said, I love the looks of the old-school Jag. The LS is not ugly at all - now, it really looks like a neat piece of kit. It's something I wouldn't call ugly, it has no real bad angles and it's a very safe design. BMW and the S-Class played the risk of being a little more adventurous with the design of their cars, it might either go the good way or the bad, and I feel both have compromises, which puts them at the bottom.

The S550's interior is just fantastic, especially if you have all the stitched leather options and such. And as much as I admire the 750i's interior, the LS has a techno-jap feel that I really dig. In face of tough competition I have to put the 7 at 4th for interior design. The XJ seriously doesn't even belong to the rest of the cars here in terms of its interior. What happened to the British touch to interior design? Bentley did a fantastic job...:t-hands:

Very close victory for S class. A8 proves again to be a tough rival.

True and very impressive for a car like the A8. I've even more estatic that C&D has finally given the A8 some credit and it was a 2006 model at that!

Oh I can't wait until the Lexus folks see this over on Edmunds!

No one denies that Lexus are reliable cars, because they are. And they're also built well, but the true test of build quality comes with age. How long will the car last?
Considering the average age of cars on Japan, not for long. It is unusual to see cars older than 15 years on the roads at all. The Japan Automotive Manufacturers Association (JAMA) reports average vehicle age to be approximately 5.8 years. Japanese cultural habit of always buying new: Typical Japanese drivers are loathe to buy a car that someone else has used, regardless of the value proposition inherent in doing so. Thus Japanese customarily purchase new cars every 5-7 years.

By the way, MB "lost" points again due to it's price. Old news! :thumbdown

But the audi thing sucks.. they can give it a larger engine..no prob..
the i drive isnt that hard to get..
and a high price comes with the best car

You know the reason for this? The cars in Japan usually have a lot of urban driving kilometers in the meter and thus the engine is exposed to much more stress than in road driving. I know this because my parents have friends there and they buy a new car every 3 years.
