Vs Car and Driver: A8 vs 750i, vs S550 vs LS460 vs XJ8 Super V8

Seriosly, I fail to see it. BMw nut or not. S-class may have better ergonomics but Im talking about the layout/design and S-class is no special compared to the rest.

To begin with, the S-Class cockpit design might not appeal to everyone (me included), but it is ergonomically superior. The whole design direction of this cockpit was to ensure an ease of operation for the user.:usa7uh:

Interior design u put 750i so far away from the the S yet everybody says they copied it.
And then u accuse J_m of biased reasoning.

Did you see my smiley next to my post? I was teasing him, not accusing him of bias.

Oh I can't wait until the Lexus folks see this over on Edmunds!

Post a link to the thread. I want to see their responses. :D

I'm not anti-Lexus, but I get a lot of fanboy BS from them on other forums so news like this just makes me happy in some way.

It's called Schadenfreude (happiness at someone elses misfortune). Leave it to the Germans to invent such words. :D

Here it is, I just posted the results so there hasn't been any comments yet from the Lexolites but watch this board light up today!

Considering the average age of cars on Japan, not for long. It is unusual to see cars older than 15 years on the roads at all. The Japan Automotive Manufacturers Association (JAMA) reports average vehicle age to be approximately 5.8 years. Japanese cultural habit of always buying new: Typical Japanese drivers are loathe to buy a car that someone else has used, regardless of the value proposition inherent in doing so. Thus Japanese customarily purchase new cars every 5-7 years.

Good post. Yes, the Japanese don't usually keep their cars very long. Kind of sad because I read an article once how a lot of older Japanese cars, that could have been classics today, have dissapeared because they were sold and ended up in poorer countries where they were driven until they fell apart etc.

The Japanese do seem to dig foreign classic cars. A friend of mine in Hong Kong sends me a Japanese Mercedes Enthusiast magazine and there was some sort of classic car event where a ton of Japanese classic MB owners showed up with their ride. Also present were a number of classics from other brands such as BMW, Jaguar etc. I didn't really know what was going on since the magazine is in Japanese obviously, but it was definitely a classic car gathering. ;)

BTW, I do think that the Japanese have managed to adapt their cars for other cultures, such as the West. Here in Germany, we keep our cars quite long, so we expect our purchase to last longer. :usa7uh:

Excellent. I just bookmarked it. Had a quick look at the second link. Boy, some of those fanboys are full of crap.:t-crazy2:

"...Lexus has a design identity while Mercedes is trying to find one, inside and out..."

^What planet is he from?^:t-crazy2:

Glad you knocked some sense into him. :usa7uh:

Oh yes, I've had so much fun over the years crushing most of them. One in particular even left the board because I would so easily disprove any and all of his feeble theories. You'd be surprised at how ignorant most Lexus fanatics are about other cars and their own brand too, once you get past JD Powers and Consumer Reports surveys. Most of them are so clueless it isn't even funny. They just like Toyota's cars, the total opposite of being an car enthusiast. Their interest stops at Lexus, kinda sad really when they call themselve auto "enthusiasts". Nothing could be farther from the truth. The battles there have been epic and people come and go on both sides of the fence, but I remain.....and I fear no Lexolite.

What I really don't respect about them is their hypocrital ways. They'll tout any and every magazine that puts a Lexus first and then turn around and say that the same magazine is clueless when they don't put a Lexus first. Now you watch, Car and Driver has put the previous LS430 and LS400 first in a few comparos before, but now that they've put the LS460L last the Lexicans will now say the review is bogus. There are few of them that I can't respect their opinions anymore because they're so full of wishy washy BS when it comes to picking and choosing reviews, in short they'll go with any review that puts a Lexus in a good light, no matter how clueless they said the same magazine was just a few months ago.

The list goes on and on. They once knocked Mercedes for making all their cars "look alike" now that Lexus does it the practice is no ok. They're laregely clueless and more seriously hypocrites except for one or two of them.

I completely agree with you. :t-cheers:

I read Autospies occassionally, so I know how these fanboys think. :D They do bash magazines once the Lexus looses - and they'll praise the same magazine when the Lexus wins. How retarded is that? :t-crazy2:

Keep up the good work. You have my thanks. :t-cheers:

That link Merc1 posted is Pathetic, it's especially pathetic as all of those Lexus fans are outrageously biased. It makes the brand and fans like me look bad :eusa_doh:

What do people act like this, why can't people be open to all sorts of brands!?

I've met very few honest Lexus fans. You're one of the few good ones I know. You're unbiased, open-minded and have an appreciation for all cars. You're top on my list. :t-cheers:

Most Lexus fanboys (again, a big difference between fans and fanboys) think that Lexus is a real global player because they're the best-selling luxury brand in the US. They're delusional in that sense. When you tell them that BMW or Benz has more prestige, they counter with BS answers and the standard "...but the Lexus is more reliable..." argument. :t-crazy2:

I hate to say this, but this is one reason why a lot of people on other car forums don't like Lexus - because of their fanboys. This also applies to fanboys of German cars, naturally. :usa7uh:

well said wimmer, unfurtunetly brand iamge isn't something that u can measure like reliability. It is all matter of taste and the way u see things.

That's true, i can't think of anything i hate more then fanboy's. I just wish more Lexus fans were like me :eusa_danc :D

All I can say is (and I read the entire thread) is that "in my opinion" C&D got it exactly right for a change. The S550 on top and the LS460 on the bottom. I am biased and cannot be any other way when it comes to this S550.

As far as the small difference in grade scores, most people will not even read or remember them, all they will remember is that C&D rated the S550 the best and the others below it. And I bet the MB's marketing team will help the public remember that point.

However, the group here is aware of all the factors and the discussion has been one I enjoyed...agreeing with some and not agreeing with others. But having not driven or owned any of the other cars (except for a '86 XJ6 VP) all I can do is exude the virtues of the winner.

Good discussion guys...:usa7uh:

Bingo. Have you kept up with that board today, fireworks! It seems to be down now so I'm not sure whats going on.

I don't go to forums that piss me off anymore. Waste of time and enerny.

In fact, this is the only car related forum I still go to, so you guys should feel extra special now j/k :D

Thanks. ;)

Brand image is also created through innovation, success in motorsports, classic cars (hence the longer a brand has been around, the more brand image is has [generally]) and appeal.

Lexus might appeal to Americans, but the rest of the world finds them unappealing since they're not adapted for different markets and because they've got no history. Prestige is very important when buying a luxury car and this is something that the German and British brands have.:usa7uh:

Checking it out now...

:D

EDIT: Wow, what a bunch of FANBOYS!

Check out this idiot from Autospies...

No, they were describing a Lexus. MB lost the luxury title when they became complacent, hence Lexus is the benchmark now. It bodes well for MB chase Lexus, which will make both cars better.

I forgot to mention that they said the S had excess torque, probably due to it out displacing the others by atleast a litre.

There's a reason I can't stand these morons.
