X1 BMW X1: CGIs, spy pics & info

The BMW X1 is a line of cars produced by BMW since 2009. A subcompact luxury crossover class, the first-generation X1 was based on the E90 3 Series and offered rear-wheel drive layout as standard. The second-generation X1 marked the switch to a front-wheel-drive-based layout using the UKL2 platform shared with the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the Mini Countryman.

That is true. I do keep wondering how low BMW and Merc will go for customers. Hopefully the BLK will be the lowest.

Thats true, because the vehicles quality will suffer. Can't put 7 series quality into a X1. It wouldn't be profitable. The photo of the X1 dash proves just that. Looks cheap. Sooner or later you'll see BMW vs. Ford comparisons and that would be bad.

I'm starting to see some already. I saw one of the Ford Explorer vs MB GLK and another one of the Honda Accord vs C-Class. terrible.

Wow...The Explorer is more M-class size then GLK. Well the Top of the line Honda Accord is real nice. Not as nice on the outside as the C-class, but it looks good.

I have a feeling that the X1 might get compared to the Toyota Rav4.

I can see that comparo...I just hope that BMW and MB won't stoop too low...they're luxury car makers and they should stay that way.

I think he meant that the S-Klasse and E65 share the same problem with overall packaging , hence the raised bootlid on both.

Secondly as mentioned previously the compact segment is the segment that will generate huge growth. And just as BMW are downsizing the X brand , other manufacturers have lined up too.
Simply the days of retaliation in regards to small premium cars are over and premium manufacturers are working on several concepts to capitalize on this growth.

Small cars can be extremely profitable if they are not restricted to one format , hence why the 1er is under serious plans for expansion , and if the press reports are to be believed so are Audi and Mercedes-Benz with their respective A1/A2/A3 and A and B-Klasse models.

BMW see the 1er in the future immitate the 3er and provide greater sustainability for the BMW Brand, developing new cost efficient platforms and engine sharing showcases that BMW mean business in this segment , currently they have had the run of the segment as you can have the 1er in four different variants (five-If you count the incoming X1).

As your comments to BMW v's Ford comparsions? Since you are American I will tell you in Europe this has been happening for quite a while.
In the UK for example the 3er outsells the Ford Mondeo of course the best selling 3er model is the 320d . But lets go back to the Ford argument, in Europe Ford offer some of the best driving cars , the previous Focus was the benchmark for driving dynamics in the current 1er , and BMW also had a look at the Mondeo which is also exceptional to drive for the E90. Even Mercedes-Benz had a look and Audi. You will get media tests of all small exectutive/sport sedans because there is a wide choice of such cars in Europe.

But back to the argument of stooping to low to produce more compact premium vehicles is simply down to one strategy : Survival.

But in America, MB and BMW are generally regarded as luxury carmakers who would never foray into the $20,000 range.

Jokes aside, I think it look so much better than the X3.

I'm not feeling it...especially the rear...it looks like somebody bent the trunk and gave it the big crease....
