X1 BMW X1: CGIs, spy pics & info

The BMW X1 is a line of cars produced by BMW since 2009. A subcompact luxury crossover class, the first-generation X1 was based on the E90 3 Series and offered rear-wheel drive layout as standard. The second-generation X1 marked the switch to a front-wheel-drive-based layout using the UKL2 platform shared with the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and the Mini Countryman.

Are people really waiting with baited breath for the launch of this watered-down luxury softroader? I don't even know what I'd have my hopes up for if I had my hopes up...

No, the vast majority of people who will eventually consider or own this vehicle are not waiting in eager anticipation for more photos.

The reason for these teaser photos is to give fodder to auto-news websites/magazines/newspapers so that they can run a small article on the upcoming launch of the X1. This way, gradually more and more people hear of the X1 prior to its launch, and also, with each small teaser photo, you are forced to focus on specific details of the car...which then makes it easier to like and appreciate the car, because when it comes to BMWs, we hear so much complaining about how the car's design is too sophisticated or too many lines and shapes.... so by showing each design element, people don't have to try to digest the entire car's design in one go once the official photos are made public.

But yeah, main reason is slowly build up public awareness of the X1 brand, and to give something visual to relate to rather than just text. As explained earlier, this is a very deliberate and well-thoughtout strategy. It may frustrate us enthusiasts (though we still keep coming back each day to see if anything new is out), but there are much larger fish to fry than to appease the enthusiasts (coz we enthusiasts already know of the X1, know what it's mostly about, and have already formed somewhat of an opinion of the car).

Frustrating, yes. Pointless, no. :)

Osna, back in the day you use to be "excited" about all BMW's big or small. This vehicle will probably increase BMW sales as well as decrease the X3 sales. So I guess its important, even though it may not be a serious off-road Suv it still should manage to kick up some dust.

I'm baffled what all the fuss is about.

There are so many pictures from different angles and parts of the car that you can see what it's going to look like anyway. Not to mention the full and candid pictures of the concept X1 which is 95% the same as the production version.

People want to see pictures of the full car, not half or a picture of the front grill.
