Concept BMW Vision Future Luxury Concept

Future car concepts, design studies, upcoming tech, and what may come next
I really like this concept.

I think this would pretty much obliterate the market for the Mercedes-Maybach if BMW built it.

However, it would also do some damage to Ghost sales.

It makes me go back and think about the whole Maybach mess .........if Daimler had chosen to go after the Flying Spur rather than let their egos get the better of them and build a modern-day Bugatti Royale, the Maybach brand may have done extremely well.

It is a pity the new S class Maybach isn't a little more distinctive because there is definitely a market for the German brands in this market segment.

I don't necessarily think it will take too many potential customers away from the Ghost, or the Maybach, for that matter. These two cars have the trappings of your "traditional" luxury. Whereas if the VFL is truly representative of BMW's approach in this class, then it'll attract customers with a more progressive taste.

I was scrolling up, and this pic really caught my eye again. I felt it warranted reposting despite it being a few posts above.

If the folks at BMW are not able to implement many of the wonderful design bits and details into their upcoming cars, especially their large sedans, then this would be a classic definition of squandering something good.

Nothing against this particular blog or inautonews.com, but once I hear it from more established source, such as Georg Kacher or one of the German or English automags, I am not going to throw my hands up in frustration....at least not yet. From what's been said, the incoming head-honcho was a proponent of this.

@Busty, @SCOTT27, or @EnI...what's the good word on this?

I have not heard to suggest otherwise as the car is currently in Davos doing the rounds. It might even appear at Geneva but I have not heard of anything except for the M Concept and the 1er and 2er Gran Tourer.
The decision is due soon but the gap between RR Ghost and the 9er is more of a chasm and then you have to consider the next Rolls-Royce Ghost and Phantom could have price increases.
In Munich that is what everybody at BMW knows in regards to the 9er. So I am surprised by the insider unless they work for the dealer network or indeed the distributor where we do not divulge until we are approaching the timetable.

There is opportunity and there is possibility plus there is the business plan opportunity to outclass its neighbours by launching an entirely new car in the luxury segment. With the car on a global tour as well as to many events and forums it is clear there is potential customers out there who would like a more exclusive BMW,especially something they can drive.
The customer has told us what they want.

But you have to look at how BMW approach concepts that use "Vision" they end up in production in one form or another.
Vision EfficientDynamics became the i8, Vision ConnectedDrive will use the design language of that concept in a progressive form for the new Z cars but elements will be familiar.

Recently a BMW designer informed me that VFLs front end conforms to legislation for safety and pedestrian safety purposes.

So, you're saying the World Premieres for BMW at Geneva will be the 1er LCI, the 2er Gran Tourer, and an M Concept?

I assume the M Concept will be the M2.

I'm going to the Geneva Motor Show on the second public day, on the 6th March.

I have said it a couple of times: I will be very surprissed if this car reaches production. It is the type of car I don´t see BMW producing.

I will be happy if I am proven wrong.

Ghost and Maybach "traditional" ?

Hmm, yes I know that Rolls-Royce talks about tradition a lot but the Ghost really isn't old fashioned.

I think the strength of the revived Rolls-Royce brand is that BMW chose not to be too traditional.

Unlike the somewhat anachronistic pre-BMW cars with their ever-decreasing market, the new models were not designed to appeal to the often antiquated tastes of the Rolls-Royce drivers club who obsess over their Phantom IIIs and Silver Clouds.
Phantom, Ghost, and Wraith are aimed squarely at the world's new super rich ....most of whom have never owned a Rolls-Royce before.

No M2.

There will be an M4 but nothing overly exciting.

OK, well I trust you more than @SCOTT27, so if you are correct then it's yet again either Scott being misinformed or deliberately posting false information.

"nothing overly exciting" doesn't exactly whet my appetite. As Detroit was so pathetic for BMW (the star being a barely facelifted LCI 6er), I was expecting a lot more from BMW at Geneva.

Geneva is a big show, I would expect BMW to come up with some concept. What new segment is BMW planning to enter? I would expect X7 Concept to be comming soon, as well as some kind of preview to the new Z line up.

There have been several M Concepts previewed at Geneva, such as the E92 M3 and E60 M5, but recently not so much. The F10 M5 was in Shanghai 2011, and the F82 M4 was at Pebble Beach. The last concept car debuted at Geneva was in 2011 and the Vision ConnectedDrive.

The production M2 will definitely be premiered at Frankfurt in September, so a Concept version, if they make one, makes sense at Geneva this March. The M2 will be popular in Europe so it makes sense to debut it there. The X7's main market will be the U.S., China and the Middle East, so I would expect any concept of that to take place in those markets. My money is on Shanghai on April 19th, or the New York Motor Show which opens on 3rd April.

I notice you've completely ignored the discussion about the M Concept even though you were the one who brought it up.

I did not bring it up. It was already out there.

What are you excited about in 2015?
‘I’m not allowed to talk about them. We will show a few of them this year – we showed the organic LED lights at the recent Consumer Electronics show, and they will be on our cars – and we will show a very interesting high-tech new USP that is even more M-like at the Geneva motor show in a few weeks’ time. I am very excited about this so I have to stop talking now.

There is a world premiere there for M4 body style. Will publish something on it soon since we can't reveal it yet. The question is if the M4 Light Iconic will be there, we heard it might be. And beside that, an M4 but not the GTS.

No M2 for sure, no X7.

1M was never shown in concept form, but I expect the M2 to have a more special presentation, not just Frankfurt.

As far as X7, most likely we will see a concept next year. 2018 is the launch date and that's still pretty far out

Oh. 2018? I thought it was 2017.

That a 9-series is cancelled I will believe it when I read an official confirmation. :)

I don't you think you ever will. A 9er was never officially on, to be officially canceled. Of course, Scott will start and cancel many cars on the Internet. Just as I date and dump many Victoria secret models on the Internet. It is awesome! :).
