After the Concept CS this is one of the best designed BMW concept cars!

I wholeheartedly agree.

Admittedly skeptical after witnessing the fate of the CS Concept, I can only hope that the VFLs' proportions will be translated in an unadultrated manner onto the upcoming 7 series successor. Obviously, many of the enticing details will not make it onto the production car. The cars' flanks simply knock me out.

You mean after Gran Lusso :D

VFL looks a lot better in real life pictures.

Purely subjective, of course: The Gran Lusso is, in my eyes, a bit "neither here nor there". Too "soft", lacking "edge", more a backwards reflection than forward thinking.

Well it's based on the F01 7er. You can only go so far with a chop job :)
The VFL on the other hand is new from it's bones up.

You want more? Enlarge the headlights slightly and incorporate the medium sized kidney grille from the G11 Prototypes and you have the face of the new 7er.

What about the front bumper? Obviously take out the excessive chrome detailing, but how conceptual is that VFL smile?

My favourite concept of the year. I wish they'd just build the damn production vehicles with the expression and style-purity of theses concepts. This car really feels like 2015 .......it makes the S class seem quite dull by comparison.

However, we all know that it'll be watered down to something they consider to be "commercial"

BMW insider shoots down BMW 9 Series rumours

The prospective Mercedes Maybach rival won’t see the light of the day.

BMW was earlier rumoured to be working on a 9 Series flagship, but a company insider has told Inautonews that there is no truth to it. With Rolls Royce positioned as the premium offering of the BMW Group, there could be no need to make another flagship, the report adds.

BMW was not shying away from the idea of a larger and more luxurious model than the 7 Series, and it was previewed by the Vision Future Luxury Concept, which was showcased at the Beijing Auto Show last year. Measuring about 5,500 mm in length, its wheelbase is 280 mm longer than that of the current 7 Series (which comes in at 3,070 mm).

The recently introduced Mercedes Maybach S Class would have been the direct rival to the rumoured 9 Series. But with the rumours now put to rest, BMW could use a stretched variant of the next generation 7 Series to compete with the uber-luxurious Maybach line up.

I hope this is not true. :(

Why couldn't this concept just have been the new 7-Series? Why show this car that makes the new 7 look like crap? Why not just make this the new 7er?? BMW, sigh....

I was scrolling up, and this pic really caught my eye again. I felt it warranted reposting despite it being a few posts above.

If the folks at BMW are not able to implement many of the wonderful design bits and details into their upcoming cars, especially their large sedans, then this would be a classic definition of squandering something good.

Nothing against this particular blog or inautonews.com, but once I hear it from more established source, such as Georg Kacher or one of the German or English automags, I am not going to throw my hands up in frustration....at least not yet. From what's been said, the incoming head-honcho was a proponent of this.

@Busty, @SCOTT27, or @EnI...what's the good word on this?
