Agreed. And so does Mercedes-Benz, but they choose the forced induction route because it seemed suitable for a car of this class. The extra torque created by the turbos probably gave the S600 better fuel economy than a N/A S600 would have done.

No. The 7er has aged really well. A facelift with sportpackage looks as modern as the S class.
Now, I am worried about the S class, because I know that this car won't age well at all. It will be very dated when the new 7er and A8 come out.

As if it would be hard for BMW, the masters of engine development, to make a 6 liter V12 BITURBO with 600 hp.... LOL, give me a break please, hahahahahah

I'm surprised no one mentioned this yet: BMW designed and built the engine for the McLaren F1 - 627 bhp, 651 Nm in a NA 6.1L V12 with a 7500rpm redline in a package that weighs 266 kg. Tuned engines could go up to 692 bhp.

If they wished to, they could just update that engine, and throw it into a 7 series.

If they wished to, they could just update that engine, and throw it into a 7 series.

That engine is waaaaaaaaaay too heavy to be used today, it's close to 15 years old. In order for it to be used in a car today you would have to construct the engine from scratch using materials like magnesium and aluminum.

I doubt the weight of the engine would be much of a problem though, especially the E65 (or perhaps the F01) platform, considering that the N73B60 (engine currently in production for the E65 760i/E66 760Li) weighs in at 617 pounds or 279 kg.

Even the weight wouldn't be a problem, production costs (expensive materials used in the engine (i.e. gold)), applicability in a luxury car (the engine was designed for a super sportscar) and meeting the emission standards propably would be.

M7 is far from smart idea for BMW..It would go against everything BMW represents in automotive world..Whats the point of 5 meter over,2 tons and 600 HP+ car anyway?C´mon,even Alpina with 500 HP is more than enough by my standards,or anyones,I think.
I would rather see ligther,more agile F01 than S65 AMG wannabe.

Well i hope BMW won't abuse M cars by making them as common as AMG models, but they seem to be heading in that direction offering M3 M5s in all available bodyshapes :s.. But come on, you wouldn't buy such a huge car to go hardcore fast, S65 are just for rich people who wants to think they own a real sports car imo, a C63 will easily kill it.. so a M7 isn't needed, they can do something like a 765i or something by throwing a 6L or something biturbo in, but it does not need to come out from M.. Hope they won't do X5M or X3M or even X6M, those beasts can't be the ultimate machine to drive.

I definitely would love for BMW to bring out the M7! If BMW wants to maintain there sporty image superiority then they need to make it imho. It's bad enough they don't offer a R8, or SLR competitor !

I´m quite sure BMW will offer competitor to R8 and SLR..These two are thornes in BMW´s foot IMO .I can´t tell that wIth S65 or S8 is the same case also,BMW should pursue it´s goal in making drivers cars,not some overwighted monsters with comsumption of T-84 tanks IMO

Quit simply put.. the S65 and others in that field are targeted at different clientele. If BMW introduced an M7 it would be playing in that field and expanding it`s image.

I don`t believe BMW want to "expand" the M name though. We all should know that by now. The focus of the M-Division is to provide a razer edge driving experience with cars this Division selects that will clearly make the cut.
The 7-Series might not make that cut to them, not yet anyway.

I wouldn`t mind seeing an M7 either. It would be quit interesting!
If BMW did introduce an M7 I`d like to see the M5s V10 put to use there.
It would need more hp and torque though. say 535hp@ 7000/ and 450lb-ft@ 5500RPM.

Why would we want a stiffer and more track oriented huge-ass over-stretch over-weight sedan ?!


I'm all for adding more power and a sport kit for looks, but that's not really what makes an M car.

^^ Yawn right back to you. Could you try and picture really a M7? Do`nt think it will fit and will be almost 150,000 or even more and that would be too expensive and they will have to build in limited numbers.

And for the record, the E65 7er is the best selling 7er in BMW history.

Anyways, I am happy with BMW going with a fast 1er before a fast 7er.
I too think an M7 is completely crazy. If people want a fast huge car, they can go for the S65, I really don't care a bit.
If I would want something like that, I'd put a biturbo on my 760i

V8 turbo will be enough for a performance 7er.

M7 will Not be needed because we have a certain four door sedan called the M5. it makes more sense to offer further improvement to the M5 than introduce a model which in turn will piss on the
M5's status , character, dynamics, power and identity.
