2 Series BMW 2er Gran Coupe Speculation

The BMW 2 Series is a range of subcompact executive cars (C-segment) manufactured by BMW since the year 2014. The 2 Series was created when BMW spun-off the 2-door models (coupé and convertible) of the BMW 1 Series into a separate series.
So this is a lie??

“BMW bosses suggest that, unlike the new 1 Series, the upcoming 2 Series Gran Coupe will sport a rear-wheel drive platform”
I think they were referring the the upcoming generation of 2 series coupe and not the gran coupe.

Ok,it’s official

The first-ever BMW 2 Series Gran Coupé has the BMW’s cutting-edge front-wheel-drive architecture.”

Misqoute by poor journalism.

The BMW statement was about 2er Coupe staying RWD, not gran coupe! The upcoming 2er Coupe will be the only 2er model on CLAR RWD platform (2er Cabrio will be axed all together) due to M2 version. All the other 1er/2er/X1/X2 etc models will be FWD FAAR based, nad will not offer true M models but M Performance M1xx M2xx etc models only.

Yes the 2er Coupe is staying RWD because of something you might have heard of called the M2?
It's also coming with larger kidney Grilles.(y):D

Just a hunch on my part, but I would suspect it's the other way round. The M2 will exist because there is a business case for the regular 2er coupe being RWD. Once that got the green light then the M2 got the green light.

It's not bad. Really not sure about that rear end though.

If they made an M135i version of the F52 I think I'd probably prefer that though, if I'm honest.

The interior looks fine, probably the stand out for me. Side profile isn't too bad, overhangs weren't fully remedied, but is to be expected with this type packaging. Front end is a considerable improvement over the 1er but somehow still funky looking. Getting X6 vibes from the rear end. Those lights... just plain awful. Fingers crossed they don't make their way onto the next 2er.

Look good.

Has a 4 series like presence...

Not sure why the M235i has square exhausts, while the M135i has circular?

The 1 series needs to be revised ASAP. This is how it should have always looked.

The nose looks well designs but as others have commented, the tall X6 inspired rear end is a big question mark. I would need to see the car in person for full judgement.

Other than that, it will be a good “grow up” alternative to the 1-Series.

I don't know if we are getting used to the style, but it seems more like something in the middle between a classic sedan and a GC, not a pure and more stricking "GC", maybe it's something strategic to cover everything (maybe they don't renew the 1 sedan).

I like it, (there is something in the simplicity of its lines) and in person it will surely look even more sexy

What I am curious about is the decision to go with a third side window. When if you cast your mind back when they actually said that a third Window in a BMW sedan was not overly a BMW aesthetic. Of course FWD BMWs were not even a twinkle in a BMW engineer or marketeers eye.
