Working on sorting some of this stuff out :usa7uh: It's all German remember translation

Gale warning If two open sports cars of the luxury class begin also over 500 HP to the comparison test, acute craze danger exists. We provoked that 507 HP strong BMW M6 Cabrio to the race against Mercedes SL 55 AMG with 517 HP strong Kompressor-V8 requested - and true elemental powers

Two absolute dream cars: BMW M6 Cabrio and Mercedes SL 55 AMG. They embody the elite of German engineer art. They are considered as style icons and belong alone to strength of the almost output of 507 HP (BMW) and 517 HP (Mercedes) clearly to the category sports car. But these noble high speed devices of a sober view of their pro and cons must undergo, if they want to exist in the AUTO newspaper test. Fascination does not only develop finally from HP numbers. Chassis, body and safety engineering must also bear the power, so that the euphoria at the end does not change to disappointment.

BODY: The basic constructions show up anyhow in the best way prepared for the attack of over 500 HP and speeds of 250 km/h and more. But in addition later. The twisting rigidity of both Kadidaten is perfect: No kneeling star, no Knarzen, no trembling inside mirrors.

With closed steel folding roof the SL denies its Roadster nature perfectly and works like a solid Coupé. The classical material-cover the M6 protects even within the high-speed range the Fasson, but an easy Wummern tells of the fact that the hood permits itself more self-dynamics despite CFK interior (carbon fiber reinforced plastic) and complex isolation. On the other hand stands cover also more dynamics: One can open and close the M6 while driving (to 35 km/h). Mercedes varies its Bedachung also by remote maintenance, but only in the stop. Otherwise it is with the variability not far ago: BMW leaves oneself with ski bag orders (349 euro), to the native of stuttgart may one 75 Kilos luggage on (closed) the roof fasten. But these cars are not to shine as load miracles and offer with 350 litres (M6) and 339 litres (SL) to enough reservoir for the luggage of two persons. Large files in the rear Swabia as well as those anyway only causes travel-suited rear seat niches in Bavaria take up additional implements. A fully automatic manipulation of the roof structures understands itself in this class automatically. Besides offers BMW a particularly pfiffigen detailed solution: The back window can be sunk for no-draught ventilation electrically - or driven out as wind bulkhead. The safety equipment contains also practical beside ESP and the Airbags like a high beam assistant, a Bi-Xenonlicht and a spacer radar. But on everyday fog headlights BMW driver must do without. They fell the increased cooling air inlets in the 6er-Front to the victim.

M Cabrios are no real M cars in my eyes so I pick the (FL) SL55. but I must add that a white M6 Cabriolet is beautiful.

And some pictures :t-cheers:

Interior of the M6 looks great with that combination...nevertheless I would go for the SL.

I would go for a M6 with 6 speed manual gearbox...but BMW doesn't offer a manual gearbox for the M6! :t-banghea

every carmag is dissing the manual gearbox in M5. SMG is far better integrated in M5 /M6 than a manual.

Oh boy is this difficult or what. I like the timeless SL, and yet the M6 sheds all of its ugliness in convertible guise and becomes an elegant Monte Carlo cruiser.

I think in this case I'll take the M6.

This is what the score page says:

M6 has more space, but SL better visibility and usability and quality is 5 points better
M6 of course harder on the road than the SL, with wins because of comfort in the ride section.

They like the engine of the SL better, because it's more economical, if we can speak of that in this class, and the way it delivers its power, also in combo with the gearbox.

Driving experience is weird. The M6 is better in the slalom, but they like the handling from the SL more. Same for turning. The brakes are beter useable ( must be different from those on the SLR ). But the M6 has more traktion. And the M6 has the best turningcircle.

value and costs the SL wins this because of emissions (who gives a shit ) and the guarantee. Base price of M6 is better though and both get appr same points for equipment, costs and insurance.

It would be harder choice if the other car was the M6 Coupé. The hard-top makes the SL much more practical in Northern Europe. :usa7uh:

That red interior is WAY too much.... Ive never been a fan of the 6er convertable...I think id rather have the SL in this one, sorry guys. If it was the M6 coupe I would think differently..

This is hard...You can manualy change gears with SMG (with the paddles behind the wheel), right?

I can't get over M6 interior while SL to me is one of the world's best looking cabrios...

SL for me because of hard top and performance.;)

I'm not sure that's a good comparison since these two cars are not in the same segment.

I'll wait for a real SL fighter: the new Z8. :D

Or a something from MB to fight the 6er ...
