M3/M4 [Spy Shots] BMW M3 & M4 (G80/G82/G83)

The BMW M3 is a high-performance version of the BMW 3 Series, developed by BMW's in-house motorsport division, BMW M GmbH. M3 models have been produced for every generation of 3 Series since the E30 M3 was introduced in 1986. The BMW M4 is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division, BMW M, that has been built since 2014. As part of the renumbering that splits the coupé and convertible variants of the 3 Series into the 4 Series, the M4 replaced those variants of the BMW M3. Official website: BMW M

I know ... I am repetitive ... but why needs the muffler casing to be this big/clumsy?
Even with massive diffusor addons you can't hide it, because it reaches so low. Why not distributing the muffler volume over a larger area of the underbody, thereby making it thinner/less visible?

Might be in the minority but I like the muffler hanging out like that.

I would add a similar remark regarding the two diagonal bars/beams that can be seen lurking behind the grille slats on most if not all BMWs and Rolls-Royces, which I'm not sure exactly what they are. BMW recently started painting them black on most models, but they are still visible if you pay attention, especially under sunlight or frontal illumination.

The V-Brace... I've seen Bimmers with those painted brighter colours before... some people feel the nee to colour code EVERYTHING.

Surprised these have not been shown as it offers something new from the repetitive amounts of spy shots clogging up other threads. That you can appreciate the fatigue it brings.

With these M4 we get to see the application of São Paulo Yellow which under a Garching Sky looks almost Green.
The angles chosen also show how much more protruding the M4 will be over the regular 4.

I saw this in a couple of .com and I can't understand the relevance of showing a centimeter inside a fender painted just because it's yellow, and a whole thread is generated from this, I guess there are people crazier than me for details totally insignificant

Sao Paulo Yellow seems like a bright neon exotic greenish yellow, the perfect color to wear a Brazilian name.

I would expect it to be one of the M3/M4's 4 launch colors (2 for the regular versions, 2 for the Competition versions). More likely M3 than M4, given the current M4 was already launched in a related color (Austin Yellow). So I'm betting M3 Competition launched in Sao Paulo Yellow, or M4 Competition :)

Because we are curious by nature.
Each new reveal whether a wheel, colour, interior or light outline Spurs the debate on until the next reveal and the next and the next. It’s the automotive equivalent of a strip club. Your eager to see what will drop next. Repetitive spy shots are bit like going to a strip club and getting Lena Dunham where you will pay her to keep her clothes on.

Yup, can be addictive to see it stripping down. Seriously like the side profile, probably one of the best coupe shapes I have seen in a while. And then there are these wheel arches...just hope her face won't disappoint..:D

Ok. Potential color choices aren't my main concern/interest ...
What about technical rumours/discussions? There was much more debate, insights and leaks before F8x introduction 7 years ago. Why? Because everyone seems to know the G8x recipe already? S58, ZF8HP, AWD ...? Will it have the configurable brake like the M8? What about weight estimations? Anything new with regards to currently used M tech gimmicks? Dynamic engine mountings?
TBH: This car could be insane. If they keep the weight down as successful as with the M5 F90, we could see a slightly sub 1700kg AWD monster with real power near 550hp (easily pure software tunes to 600hp/700Nm possible). Then this could translate into the performance of a 991.1 Porsche turbo ... which would be crazy ...

Ah, so what we're to glean from this latest spy shoot is that the car underneath that disguise is a lemon...

... coloured vehicle.

Late this year. On sale in 2021

Does bmwblog have any insights on "plausible rumours" on the technology side? E.g. 48V integration, approx. weight, cfrp driveshaft revival, ...? Or is the only interesst people have nowadays the design (grilles) or is the M GmbH just better in avoiding leaks than in the past?

And for @SCOTT27: There is no NextGen e...

There is something being planned due to two factors. One. the non attendance at Paris as the next show would not be until LA at the latest. And Second. Auto China still uncertain is also why they are looking at an alternative event to be held over. The 4 still launches in June.

As I said, not in June as you posted. I'm assuming you based that on last year's NextGen. There is a similar event this year, more on that soon. So there is a show before LA, for sure.

As far as the 4 Series, SOC and launch event are two different things.

BMW M

BMW M GmbH, formerly known as BMW Motorsport GmbH, is a subsidiary of BMW AG that manufactures high-performance luxury cars. BMW M ("M" for "motorsport") was initially created to facilitate BMW's racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicle portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany.
